Brent Brennan and Chris Brasfield Join Football Staff

Brent Brennan and Chris Brasfield have been named assistant football coaches at Oregon State University, head coach Mike Riley announced Monday. Brennan comes to OSU from San Jose State University and Brasfield from the University of Oregon. The employment of both is contingent on Oregon State University's Administration and Human Resources' approval.
Brennan will coach the wide receivers, a position assignment he had last season for the Spartans. During his tenure with the Western Athletic Conference school he has also held the positions of co-offensive coordinator, tight ends coach, special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator.
"We are very pleased to bring Coach Brennan to our staff," Riley said. "He brings a ton of coaching and recruiting experience to the Beavers; he's a great fit for this program."
Prior to his tenure at San Jose State, Brennan spent four seasons (2001-04) as the wide receivers/slot back coach at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and for his final season was also the team's recruiting coordinator. While at Cal Poly, he coached three NFL players and recruited the 2004 Division I-AA (now FCS) Player of the Year, Jordan Beck.

Brennan began his coaching career in 1996 at Woodside High School in California. His first collegiate experience was as a graduate assistant coach for wide receivers at the University of Hawai'i in 1998. In 1999 he was the graduate assistant coach for tight ends at the University of Washington and in 2000 was the graduate assistant coach on offense for the University of Arizona.

Being a west coast guy and having played and coached in the Pac-10, the brand of football played in this conference is second to none," Brennan added. "Coach Riley is one of the most innovative and well-respected head coaches in the country. He has assembled a great coaching staff made up of outstanding football coaches who are also quality people. It's a dream come true for me and my family to be joining the Oregon State football community. Spring ball is a week away, and I can't wait to get started!"
Brennan is a 1996 graduate of UCLA with a bachelor's degree in history. He lettered two years for the Bruins as a wide receiver and played on the 1993 Pac-10 Champion and 1994 Rose Bowl team.

Brasfield comes to Oregon State after a one-year stint as the graduate assistant coach for defense for the Ducks. He fills a vacancy that was created when three-year assistant coach Reggie Davis left early last month to join the San Francisco 49ers' coaching staff.
"Chris is an excellent addition to our staff; he has had a lot of experience working on the offensive side of the ball," Riley said. "He's a proven recruiter who will bring a lot of energy to our football team."
Prior to arriving at Oregon in March of 2010, he spent three years as the running backs coach at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. His other coaching stops have included at Chicago Hope Academy High School as an assistant football coach and head track coach for two years, three years as head football coach and track coach at Fort Worth (TX) Country Day School, one season as wide receivers coach at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State), one year as wide receivers and return specialists coach at Midwestern State (TX), nearly two years as a director of athletic training, and six months as an offensive graduate assistant coach at TCU and as a teacher/coach at All Saints Episcopal School in Fort Worth.
Brasfield also has experience in the NFL's minority coaching internship program with the Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans, and for nine months was the college area scout for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"When I got the call from Coach Riley offering me the opportunity to become the running backs coach at Oregon State, I was thoroughly excited and ready to get to work," Brasfield said. "I'm very proud to be a member of the Oregon State staff and I look forward to getting after it during spring practice. I can't wait to get my family up to Corvallis and get plugged into Beaver Nation."
Brasfield played collegiately at TCU in 1994 and '95 as a wide receiver and return specialist after transferring to the Horned Frogs from UTEP where he was a team member from 1991-93. He is a 1996 graduate of TCU with a bachelor's degree in economics and in 2001 with his master's in liberal arts.
Riley also announced that Greg Newhouse is no longer on the staff. He was offered another position within the program, but elected to pursue other opportunities. Newhouse spent 14 seasons at Oregon State in a variety of roles on the defense.
