Men's Golf Finishes Fourth At Bandon Dunes Championship

March 12, 2011
BANDON, Ore. - The Oregon State men's golf team had two players finish in the Top 10 and battled inclement weather on Saturday to finish fourth at the 16-team Bandon Dunes Championship.
Sophomore Nick Sherwood finished tied for sixth with a 3-over 70-76-73--219 and freshman David Fink remained steady with a 4-over 73-72-75--220 to wind up tied for 10th to lead the Beavers at the par-72, 6,798-yard Bandon Dunes Course.
"We had a rain delay for a couple of hours and didn't get going until late, but our guys battled and had the third lowest round of the day," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "We gave away a few shots here and there, and even though the conditions were difficult, there were no excuses for it. Overall, the guys fought hard all day and that was good to see.
"Nick had a very good score; his best finish as a Beaver in tough conditions," Reehoorn added. "When Nick plays well, we usually play well as a team so we need to keep that going from him. I'm very excited for David; as a freshman he's been rock solid all year."
Junior Alex Moore finished tied for 31st with a 10-over 77-71-78--226, junior Casey King was tied for 41st with a 15-over 72-78-81 and junior Jonnie Motomochi shot his best round of the tournament on Saturday to finish tied for 48th with a 16-over 79-77-76--232. Sophomore Jeff Petroff played as an individual and shot a 7-over 74-74-75--223 to finish tied for 16th.
Washington won the tournament with a 7-over 281-285-305--871 and Charlie Hughes of the Huskies won medalist honors with a 6-under 67-68-75--210.
The Beavers return to action March 21-22 at the Oregon Duck Invitational at the Eugene Country Club.
