Men's Golf Finishes Ninth At Battle At The Beach

NEWPORT COAST, Calif. - The Oregon State men's golf team had three players shoot a 2-over 72 on Tuesday at the 2nd Annual Battle at the Beach to finish in ninth place at its second tournament of the spring season.
The Beavers finished with a 43-over 365-362-366--1093 at the three-day, 54-hole tournament, which featured six players competing for each team with the top five scores counting toward the team score.
Juniors Alex Moore and Jonnie Motomochi and freshman David Fink all fired a 72 in the final round at the par-70, 6,900-yard Ocean North Course at The Resort at Pelican Hill. Moore finished tied for 17th overall and Fink was tied for 23rd with his third consecutive round of 72.
Junior Casey King, who shot a 1-under 69 on Monday, and sophomore Nick Sherwood both fired a 5-over 75, while sophomore Jeff Petroff had a 7-over 77 in the final round.
UCLA shot a 1-over 351 in the final round to pass San Diego for the team title, while Kenneth McCready of San Diego held the lead throughout the tournament to finish with medalist honors with a 7-under 65-67-71--203.
The Beavers return to action March 11-12 at the Bandon Dunes Collegiate at Bandon, Ore.
