Elizabeth Carey begins her first season as assistant coach for the Oregon State women's cross country and track teams.
Carey attended Cleveland High School (Portland, Ore.), where she was a state meet qualifier in every season of cross country and track, a six-time Portland Interscholastic League District Champion, and led the first-ever state-qualifying Warriors XC team.
Carey, a 2006 graduate of Columbia University, was a member of the cross country Ivy League (Heptagonal) Champion teams from 2002-06, and raced long-distance events. Carey frequented the Dean's List as a student-athlete while earning her BA in Urban Studies with a specialization in Political Science.
Still an avid racer, Carey is a member of Team XO, competing in cross country, track and road racing. She ran a 17:14 5,000-meters personal record at the Oregon Twilight Meet at Eugene's Hayward Field (Spring 2007). Recently she was co-captain of the Team XO Coed All Stars Hood to Coast team that finished second.
Carey coached cross country and track at Cleveland, Southridge and Franklin High Schools while directing the Cleveland Community Field Project (www.clevelandcommunityfield.org) and writing informative blogs on www.RunnerSpace.com and http://blog.oregonlive.com/runoregon/.
Carey is originally from Portland, Ore.
