PERSONAL—Born 12/6/80 in Las Vegas, NV...son of Larry and Pamela Turner...he is in the College of Liberal Arts and is a psychology major...has two sisters, Tamyra, 27, and Alexandria, 20...his father works for Nevada Power and his mother works for Clark County School District...winning back-to-back junior college national championships has been his top athletic thrill to date...selected OSU because, “I felt it was a good place to come and play and felt comfortable with the team.”
OSU—(2003—Senior)—Lawrence enters his senior season with 13 games played and 12 starts...he has 200 defensive production points, based on 57 tackles (40 solo), one tackle for loss, five passes broken up and four pass interceptions...Lawrence had an outstanding junior season and he showed by his play in spring drills that he is poised for a very good senior year...he is a solid tackler, one of the hardest hitters on the team...he has improved his man coverage pass defensive skills...he will be a very key member of OSU’s strong secondary...he will return to fall camp as the Beavers’ starting strong safety...he has posted weightlifting bests of 420 in the back squat, 290 in the bench press, 297.6 in the power clean and 303.1 in the push press...his top vertical jump is 35 inches and he has been timed by OSU at 4.54 in the 40.
(2002—Junior)—Lawrence started all 12 regular season games for OSU at either strong safety or free safety...he did not start the Insight Bowl game against Pittsburgh, but played as a backup strong safety in that game...finished the season with 200 defensive points, which ranked fifth among OSU defenders...he recorded 57 tackles, including 40 solo...he had one tackle for loss...he broke up five passes and had four interceptions...he intercepted passes against Eastern Kentucky, UNLV, Fresno State and Arizona State...he had a very consistent year...he produced double-figure defensive points in all but three games...Lawrence signed a letter of intent with Oregon State on December 19, 2001 during the early signing period...enrolled at start of winter quarter on January 7 and participated in the winter conditioning program...he reported to spring drills listed No. 1 on the depth chart at strong safety...Lawrence was very impressive during the spring...he proved to be an exceptionally hard-hitter with a nose for the football...also excelled on pass coverage...in the final Spring Game, he had five tackles and broke up three passes for the winning Black squat...during the winter program, Lawrence posted weightlifting bests of 425 in the back squat, 270 in the bench press, 259 in the power clean and 276 in the push press...his top vertical jump was 33.5 inches.
CITY COLLEGE OF SAN FRANCISCO, San Francisco, CA—Played for CCSF, which earned its third consecutive JC Grid-Wire Magazine mythical national championship by defeating Palomar College 61-12 on Dec. 8 in the California state championship game at Visalia...Turner had five tackles to help CCSF to its 36th victory in a row...rated by PacWest football recruiting service as a four-star player and the fifth-best defensive back in junior college football...timed at 4.5 in the 40...earned first-team All-Golden Gate Conference honors as a sophomore in 2001...he blocked three kicks and intercepted eight passes during the season...played for Coach George Rush.
CHEYENNE HIGH SCHOOL, Las Vegas, NV—Played quarterback and defensive back as a prep...he was recruited by Oregon State out of high school...Turner was selected as the 1998 Offensive Player of the Year in the state of Nevada by the Las Vegas Sun newspaper...originally signed with UNLV but failed to qualify for an athletic scholarship...also recruited by Texas Tech and Wyoming...played for Coach George Perry...played free safety on defense...in his best defensive game as a prep, Lawrence intercepted two passes in the final two minutes of a game to preserve a 20-13 victory...earned two letters in football and two in track and field...he was part of the 4X400 relay team that broke a 21-year-old record.
