PERSONAL--Born 11/18/77 in Oregon City, Oregon...son of Bill and Priscilla McClaughry...his father is a counselor and his mother is a registered nurse...has an older brother, Toby, 23, and a younger sister, Alexsis, 15...he is in the College of Liberal Arts and is a communication major...his father played football for Eastern Washington...his brother Toby played one year of football at University of Montana Western...his grandfather, Willard, played four years of football at Fresno State...enjoys skiing, golf, basketball and baseball...his favorite athlete is Dominique Wilkins...selected OSU because, "I like the coaching staff, OSU is in the Pac-10, and a quality education."
OSU—(2001—Senior)—Tyler has earned two letters in his OSU career…he has played in six games during his career to date…Tyler entered spring drills listed No. 1 at left guard…he was in a three-way battle with Mike Kuykendall and Kanan Sanchez for the No. 1 spot the entire spring…Tyler will report to fall camp listed No. 3 on the depth chart at left guard, but the decision as to one, two and three has yet to be decided…the left guard position will likely be the key battle in fall camp…in the winter program, Tyler posted weightlifting bests of 365 in the bench press, 292.1 in the power clean and 475 in the squat.
OSU--(2000-Junior)--Tyler enters his junior season having played in one football game for the Beavers...he was listed No. 2 on the depth chart at right guard at the start of spring drills...at the conclusion of spring drills, Tyler was listed No. 3 behind Robert Sykes and Jared Cornell at left guard...Cornell is actually the backup for both guard sports, making Tyler the fourth offensive guard in the rotation at the present time...in winter conditioning, Tyler posted weightlifting bests of 420 in the back squat, 355 in the bench press and 280 in the power clean.
OSU-(1999-Sophomore)--Tyler participated in his third spring practice at OSU and showed definite improvement in his game...was listed as the No. 3 left guard when spring drills opened and he emerged as the No. 2 left guard behind Jared Cornell when spring drills closed...based on his spring performance, Tyler put himself into a position to make a contribution as a backup offensive lineman in 1999...in the weight room, Tyler produced personal bests of 296 pounds in the hang clean, 345 in the bench press, 435 in the back squat and 325 in the incline...his best vertical jump is 25.50 inches.
(1998-Redshirt Freshman)--Tyler entered spring drills already having the benefit of a spring practice and a redshirt season after enrolling during winter quarter in 1996...started the spring listed No. 2 at right tackle...completed the spring listed No. 2 at right guard behind Robert Sykes...Tyler has made continued progress and his stock continues to rise...still has room to grow and get stronger, but he moved himself into a position to get playing time in the fall...Tyler did not make it into a game during the 1998 season.
(1997-Freshman)-Tyler had originally signed a letter of intent with OSU in February of 1996 but did not achieve a qualifying test score to enter OSU in 1996...he got a qualifying SAT score in time to enter OSU for spring quarter and was able to compete in spring drills...entered the spring listed as a tight end...after a one-week look at tight end, Tyler was moved to offensive guard where he completed the spring listed as the No. 3 right guard...he spent the 1997 season as a redshirted offensive lineman.
LAKE OSWEGO HIGH SCHOOL--(1993-96)--Tyler played football for Coach Steve Coury, former OSU All-American, and the Lake Oswego Pacers in the Three River League (4A)...Tyler turned out for football for the first time ever as a junior at Lake Oswego and made spectacular strides from his junior year to his senior season...earned first-team all-league (Three Rivers) honors on offense as a tight end and second-team all-league honors on defense as a lineman following his senior year...earned four letters in basketball and he earned honorable mention all-league honors in basketball as a junior...in football, Tyler caught 15 passes for 150 yards and 1 touchdown as a junior and 25 passes for 250 yards as a senior..."He is a real diamond in the rough," said Coach Coury. "He is very athletic and he will get a lot bigger. I really think his future is ahead of him and he has not come close to tapping his ability. He is a real sleeper." He selected OSU over Boise State.
