CHAMINADE PREP: SuperPrep Magazine All-American and Rivals.com rated him the 11th best center prospect in the nation...first team All-CIF and all-area as a senior...selected the top lineman in the area as a senior by the Los Angeles Daily News and named to the Los Angeles Times' All-Area Team...Mission League Lineman of the Year in 2003 and first team All-San Fernando Valley...did not allow a sack over his position in 650-plus plays as senior...he had 122 pancake blocks as a senior (school record), and for his career had a record 220...he also excelled on defense where he had 138 tackles, including 98 solo, as a defensive end as a senior...for his defensive career he made 278 tackles...as a junior his honors included unanimous first team All-Mission League as both an offensive and defensive lineman, first team All-San Fernando Valley, and first team All-CIF on offense and second team on defense...according to SuperPrep, "Oregon State overcame over 40 of the nation's top schools to land Adam"...played for Team California in the annual Air-7 California vs. Florida All-Star Game...he was invited to play in the Los Angeles Valley East-West game...he earned four letters in football and track, and two in basketball...played center in basketball and competed in shot put in track.
PERSONAL: Born in Los Angeles...son of Bill Speer III and Susan Speer...he has an older sister, Jennifer...enters OSU with a 3.6 GPA and was selected eight straight semesters for the CIF Academic Award...his father played football at Cal State-Los Angeles...his grandfather, Bill Speer Jr., played football for Oklahoma, and his great grandfather, William Everett, played football at Tulsa...selected for the National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame Academic Award... enjoys fishing, hunting, surfing, snowboarding, and basketball...Dick Butkus is his favorite athlete...his top prep athletic thrill was defeating arch-rival St. Francis for the first time during his senior year...he selected OSU because, "I have an opportunity to get a degree, live in Oregon, and the football program has a chance to win a national championship"...expects to major in business.
