OSU--(1999-Redshirt Freshman)--Tyler reported to spring practice listed No. 4 on the depth chart at quarterback after redshirting in 1998...struggled early in spring drills and then started making good progress with his understanding of the offense and his execution...in the three major spring scrimmages, Tyler completed 4 of 9 passes for 38 yards at Roseburg (4/17)...completed 4 of 8 for 30 yards and had an interception at Prothro Field (4/24)...completed 2 of 5 passes for 6 yards for the Black squad in the spring game at Hillsboro (5/1)...has great throwing motion and has a good future at Oregon State...will likely battle for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart when fall camp opens...in the weight room, Tyler has personal bests of 215 pounds in the hang clean, 224 in the bench press, 245 in the back squat and 195 in the incline...has a vertical jump best of 23.00 inches...tested for only 7.03 percent body fat.
(1998-Freshman)--Tyler reported to OSU for the start of fall camp in August and spent the 1998 season as a redshirt quarterback.
PROSSER HIGH SCHOOL, Prosser, WA--(1995-97)--Tyler was selected as a prep All-American by PrepStar Magazine and was named the 12th best quarterback in the Western region by SuperPrep Magazine...as a senior he won the following honors: he was a PrepStar second team all-region (Western) pick in its preseason issue...was named honorable mention on the Tacoma News Tribune's list of Northwest Nuggets for top players in the Northwest (Oregon, Washington and Alaska)...was named the Mid-Valley Conference Play of the Year... also named all-area by the Tri-City Herald...SuperPrep Magazine rated him No. 2 quarterback in Washington behind Jared Jones, the #2 player on SuperPrep's list of top players in Northwest...runs the 40 in 4.69...also recruited by Oregon, Washington State, Washington, Purdue, Colorado State, Utah and Idaho...led the Prosser High School Mustangs (3A) to a 10-1 record as a senior, his only year as a starter...completed 195 of 303 (.644 percentage) for 2,964 yards and 29 touchdowns with 11 interceptions...his passing figures broke the Mid-Valley League season records...rushed for four touchdowns, making him responsible for 33 touchdowns...his best games as a senior were against Hanford and Ellensburg High Schools...completed 27 of 35 passes for 362 yards, 6 touchdowns and 1 interception against Hanford...completed 18 of 26 passes for 362 yards and 4 touchdowns in the Ellensburg contest...lettered in football as a junior but only completed 17 of 30 passes for 286 yards and 3 touchdowns with 1 pass intercepted...a fine all-around athlete and was a two-year starting guard in basketball while earning three letters...was a three-year starter in baseball as an outfielder and pitcher...Tyler played basketball for Coach Kevin Lusk and baseball for Coach Bob Alter...played football for Coach Tom Moore, who said, "I expect him to be a great college player as he will get a lot bigger and stronger. We ran a pro style offense and he called a lot of the plays at the line of scrimmage. He sees the field very well and understands the game very well."... "He has seen his stock rise in a hurry," according to SuperPrep Magazine..."Good composure and sees the field well," said SuperPrep...played in the East-West Summer Classic prep football game at Kennewick, WA on June 26, 1998.
