PERSONAL—Born 3/9/81 in Elizabeth, NJ…son of Ricot and Leslie Jean-Baptiste…his father is a computer operator and his mother is a nurse…he has one older brother, Ricot Jr., 25…he is in the College of Liberal Arts and is a pre-communication major...enjoys lifting weights, basketball and video games…his favorite athletes are Lawrence Taylor, Chris Webber and Muhammad Ali…his top athletic thrill as a prep athlete was playing for the state football championship game as a senior…he selected OSU because, “It was the best place for me to continue my academic and athletic career, and the football system also fits me well.”
OSU—(2003—Senior)—After a solid initial year with the Beavers, Jayson will give OSU valuable depth at defensive end...he played behind Noah Happe and Bill Swancutt, both starters, last year and was very productive...Jayson will be in the same role again this year, serving as a backup defensive end...he came out of spring drills listed as the backup to Bill Swancutt at right end, but he can play either side...he has posted career weightlifting bests of 540 in the back squat, 385 in the bench press, 303.1 in the power clean and 336.2 in the push press...his top vertical jump is 32.5 inches.
(2002—Junior Redshirt)—Jayson played behind Dan Rothwell during spring drills and when Rothwell suffered a season-ending knee injury in fall camp, Jayson’s playing time increased...Jayson played in all 13 games for OSU during the season and was basically the Beavers’ third defensive end, playing behind Bill Swancutt and Noah Happe...he produced a total of 88 defensive points, which ranked 14th among Beaver defenders...he accounted for 20 tackles during the season, including 15 solo...he had one sack and four tackles for loss...he recovered one fumble in the Oregon game...redshirting during the 2001 season was very valuable for Jayson...he was able to get his feet on the ground, learn the OSU system and gain more size and strength...he reported to spring drills listed No. 2 on the depth chart at right defensive end and completed the spring in the same position...he reported to fall camp listed behind Dan Rothwell...Jayson had a strong spring and left little doubt that he will be a strong pass rusher for Oregon State...during the winter conditioning program, Jayson produced outstanding weightlifting marks...he lifted 500 pounds in the back squat, 385 in the bench press, 292 in the power clean and 331 in the push press...his top vertical jump mark was 31 inches.
(2001—Junior)—Jayson reported to OSU for the first time for the start of fall camp on August 6...Jayson had a redshirt year available and the OSU coaching staff decided to redshirt him during the 2001 season...he spent the season playing defensive end on the Beavers’ scout team.
SAN JOSE CITY COLLEGE, San Jose, CA—Signed with OSU in the early signing period…ran the 40 in 4.6…two-year starter for San Jose City College at defensive end…he was a first team all-conference (Golden Gate Conference) pick as a freshman and sophomore…played defensive end and outside linebacker for the Jaguars…as a freshman, he had 67 tackles, including 51 solo, plus four sacks, eight tackles for loss, two interceptions, four passes broken up, six quarterback hurries and three fumble recoveries…unfortunately, defensive statistics were not kept by San Jose City College during his sophomore season…played for Coach Howard Gay…according to Coach Gay, “Jayson has a great attitude and work ethic and is an outstanding pass rusher. He has a body that he can easily add more weight.”
ABRAHAM CLARK HIGH SCHOOL, Roselle, NJ—Jayson was a two-sport (football and basketball) letterman at Abraham Clark…he was a four-year starter in football as a defensive end/linebacker on defense and a tight end on offense…played for Coach Louis Grasso…he was a three-time all-conference (Mountain Valley) selection on defense and a two-year All-Union County pick…he served as team captain for two years…played in the Snapple Bowl All-Star Game (Union County vs. Middlesex County)…as a tight end, Jayson caught 16 passes in 11 games as a freshman for 332 yards (20.8 average) and three touchdowns…caught 12 passes for 203 yards (16.9 average) in eight games as a sophomore…caught 21 passes for 420 yards (20.0 average) in 10 games as a junior…he caught 23 passes for 560 yards (24.3 average) and one touchdown in nine games as a senior…on defense, Jayson recorded 68 tackles, 12 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, three interceptions and 6 fumble recoveries as a freshman…produced 46 tackles, five sacks and seven tackles for a loss as sophomore…he had 88 tackles, including 60 solo, with 10 sacks and 23 tackles for loss as a junior…also had seven fumble recoveries plus an interception…produced 72 tackles with four sacks, 10 tackles for loss, two interceptions and five fumble recoveries as a senior…his best prep game found him producing 18 tackles, including four sacks and five tackles for loss, plus four passes broken up and eight pass receptions for 140 yards.
