PREVIOUS COACHING EXPERIENCE:
(1980-81)—Noel started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, New Mexico. He worked with the offense at New Mexico.
(1981)—Noel moved to Boulder (CO) High School as an assistant coach for the 1981 season.
(1982-86)—Moved to Colorado State as an assistant coach. He coached the quarterbacks and receivers at CSU.
(1987-91)—Moved to Texas Christian in 1987 as an assistant coach. He coached the quarterbacks at TCU.
(1992-94)—Noel moved to Minnesota in 1992 as an assistant coach. He coached quarterbacks at Minnesota.
(1994-98)—Noel moved to Mississippi in 1994 and served as the Rebels’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Mississippi participated in the 1997 Ford Motor City Bowl.
(1999-01)—Noel moved to Auburn under Coach Tommy Tuberville in 1999 as the Tigers’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Auburn participated in the 2001 Citrus Bowl.
(2002)—Joined Dennis Erickson’s Oregon State staff on March 1, 2002. Noel is the Beavers’ special teams coordinator and running backs coach.
PREP ATHLETIC RECORD: Attended Raton High School in Raton, New Mexico. Earned three letters in football, basketball and track and field. He was a two-year starter in football and earned All-State honors as a senior in 1974.
COLLEGE ATHLETIC RECORD: Attended University of New Mexico and earned four letters (1975-79) as a quarterback. He was a two-year starter. He set numerous school records at New Mexico and finished fifth in the nation in total offense in 1976 and earned second-team All-Western Athletic Conference honors. He finished 11th in the nation in total offense in 1977.
EDUCATION: Graduated from Raton High School in Raton, New Mexico 1975. Graduated from University of New Mexico in 1981 with a B.A. in university studies.
PERSONAL: Noel is married to the former Patricia Pogna. Noel and Patricia have three children, son Taylor (13), son Grayson (10) and daughter Alexandra (8).
RECRUITING AREA: Central California and southern states.
NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Coached All-SEC quarterback Ben Leard at Auburn. Leard set a single-season record for completion percentage in 1998. Under Mazzone, Auburn’s offense produced two SEC Players of the Year: Rudi Johnson, SEC Player of the Year, 2000 and Ronney Daniels, SEC Freshman of the Year, 1999. Coached in three bowl games, the 1997 Ford Motor City Bowl, the January 2001 Citrus Bowl and the 2001 Peach Bowl.
