PERSONAL--Born 9/2/77 in Las Vegas, Nevada...son of Alex and Jacqueline Jackson...his father is retired and his mother is a registered nurse...has a twin brother, Jason, 21, and an older sister Jennifer, 22...he is in the College of Business and is a business administration major at OSU...selected OSU because, "I wanted to become a part of an up and coming football program and to obtain a sound education."
OSU--(1999-Senior)--Jonathan will go into his senior year on a streak of 11 straight starts, having played in 33 straight games and started a total of 12, plus he has never missed a day of practice in his three years at Oregon State to date...Jonathan was the second-leading tackler in the Pac-10 Conference in 1998 with 114...Jonathan is one of the premier linebackers in the Pac-10 as well as the nation...Jonathan is an honors candidate in 1999...has 519 career defensive points at OSU, coming on 117 solo tackles, 77 assisted tackles, 3 sacks, 6 tackles for loss, 5 quarterback hurries, a blocked kick, 2 passes broken up, a caused fumble and a fumble recovery...Jonathan enjoyed a sensational spring and had 9 solo tackles in the final Spring game at Hillsboro for the Black squad...has tremendous athletic ability with great football instincts...goes about his business in a very quiet manner...seldom makes a mistake...in the weight room, Jonathan has posted personal bests of 295 pounds in the hang clean, 365 in the bench press, 480 in the back squat, 330 in the incline and posted a 30.00 best in the vertical jump...despite his size, tested for only 7.25 percent body fat.
(1998-Junior)--With the graduation of Nathan McAtee, the middle linebacker job was Jonathan's as he headed into spring drills and he did not disappoint with his play during the spring...after spending two seasons as a backup, Jonathan was ready to take over the middle linebacker position...he had the benefit of playing between two outstanding senior linebackers, Brian Rogers and Bryan Jones...heading into his junior season, Jonathan had 241 career defensive points, including 55 solo tackles and 25 assisted tackles, 1 sack and 3 tackles for loss...Jonathan also did not miss a practice in the spring or fall camp to keep his record perfect as far as participation...Jonathan started all 11 games for OSU in 1998 and produced a total of 278 defensive points, fourth best on the squad...he had 62 solo tackles, 52 assisted tackles for 114 total, plus 2 sacks, 3 tackles for loss, a fumble recovery, 2 passes broken up and 3 quarterback hurry plays...Jonathan was the second-leading tackler in the Pac-10 Conference in 1998, second only to Arizona's Marcus Bell who had 139...Jonathan had 20 defensive points vs. Nevada (9/5) with 6 solo tackles and 2 assisted tackles...had 12 tackles (7 solo) and 26 defensive points vs. Baylor (9/12)...produced 5 solo tackles and a pass break up vs. USC (9/19)...had 17 tackles (5 solo) and 27 points at ASU (9/26)...had 11 tackles (4 solo) at Utah State (10/3) and 19 points...had 8 solo tackles and 9 total, plus a quarterback hurry at Stanford (10/10) for 28 points...had 9 tackles (5 solo), a quarterback sack and a tackle for loss and 29 points...had a team high 52 points on 4 solo tackles and 12 total tackles, plus a quarterback sack, 2 tackles for loss, 2 quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery at Washington (10/24)...was nominated for Pac-10 Player of the Week following the Washington game...had 13 tackles (8 solo) and 29 points vs. California (10/31)...had 7 tackles and a pass break up for 14 points vs. UCLA...had 10 tackles (8 solo) vs. Oregon for 26 points.
(1997-Sophomore)--Jonathan played in all 11 games in 1997 and started one game, California, at middle linebacker when Nathan McAtee was injured...even though he was McAtee's backup, Jonathan got a lot of playing time and produced a total of 146 defensive points, the ninth best on the team...he made a lot of big plays in the season, but none bigger than the Utah State game when he preserved the victory for OSU by tackling the Aggies' DeMario Brown on the Beavers' 5-yard line forcing a fumble and then recovering the ball for the Beavers...the play prevented Utah State from a chance of gaining a possible tie and forcing an overtime...his top two high point games were 29 against Utah State and California...he had 36 solo tackles, 15 assisted tackles and one tackle for loss ...Jonathan is a solid football player...he is strong, has good speed and is very durable...he had yet to miss a day of practice in his Beaver football career heading into his sophomore year...he saw extensive action as a redshirt freshman in 1996...he entered spring drills as the No. 2 strong linebacker and he completed the spring as the No. 2 middle linebacker behind Nathan McAtee.
(1996-Redshirt Freshman)--Jonathan entered spring drills listed as the No. 2 Will linebacker...had an outstanding spring and reported to fall camp as the No. 2 Sam linebacker behind senior Bryan Ludwick...Jonathan played in all 11 games as a backup linebacker and also on special teams...participated in a total of 395 plays and recorded a total of 95 defensive points, 14th highest on the squad...one of the highlights of the season for Jonathan was blocking a punt in the USC game, one of three blocked kicks (OSU record) by the Beavers that particular game...Jonathan really came on strong toward the end of the season and averaged almost 50 plays a game in the last three OSU games of the season.
(1995-Freshman)--Jonathan spent the 1995 season as a redshirt linebacker and his play on the defensive scout team earned him the OSU Coaches Award for the outstanding defensive player on the scout team...he proved to be a very durable player and he did not miss a day of practice.
BONANZA HIGH SCHOOL, Las Vegas, NV (1993-94)--Jonathan was a two-year starter for Bonanza High School and Coach Rick Traasdahl as an outside linebacker and he doubled as a tight end his senior year...Jonathan runs 4.65 in the 40...ran the 100 meters as a freshman and sophomore...in nine games as a junior OLB, he had 74 tackles, including 6 tackles for losses and 4 passes broken up...as a senior, he recorded 64 tackles with 6 tackles for loss and 5 passes broken up and 1 interception...caught 7 passes for 2 touchdowns...missed three games his senior year due to a pinched nerve in his neck...he was honorable mention all-league (Sunset Division, 3A) and first-team all-league as a senior...was a starter on the Bonanza basketball team as a forward...as a junior, he was the city's leading rebounder...was recruited by Utah State, Wyoming, Nevada-Reno, Washington State and OSU. "Jonathan hasn't played a lot of football in his career, but he is a real student of the game and is going to get better and better," said Coach Traasdahl. "He made plays sideline to sideline for us. He hasn't even reached the tip of the iceberg as far as tapping his talent yet. He is a good student and a conscientious young man who sets goals for himself and achieves them."
