PERSONAL--Born 1/26/79 in Walnut Creek, CA...son of George and Nancy Torres...his father is in the retail business and his mother is a nurse...Dan is in the College of Liberal Arts and his major is political science...has a younger brother and sister, Tom, 16; and Jessica, 12...entered OSU with a 3.13 GPA...enjoys billiards, bowling, video games, basketball and baseball...Howie Long is his favorite athlete...catching first ever TD pass vs. Pinole Valley has been his top athletic thrill to date...selected OSU because, "I like the environment and I wanted to play at a Pac-10 school.”
OSU—(2001—Senior)—Dan enters his senior year having played in 6 games in his OSU career, all on the defensive line…when spring drills opened, Dan was listed as a tight end, but he was moved back to the defensive line after the first week of spring drills…Dan had a good spring and worked his way to No. 2 on the depth chart at left tackle…Dan will probably need to hold off the challenge of junior college transfer James Lee when fall camp opens to retain his backup role…in the winter program, Dan posted a bench press mark of 375, along with 286.6 in the power clean and 445 in the squat.
OSU--(2000-Junior)--Dan has played in four games so far in his OSU career...he did not get into a game during the 1999 season as he did not get higher than No. 3 on the depth chart at right defensive end...he reported to spring drills listed No. 2 on the depth chart at left tackle...at the conclusion of spring drills he dropped to No. 3 on the depth chart at left tackle and will have to battle in preseason practice to earn playing time in 2000...he posted impressive numbers in the winter conditioning program with the seventh-best bench press on the squad at 370 pounds...he was 405 in the back squat and 280 in the power clean.
OSU--(1999-Sophomore)--Dan reported to spring drills as the No. 3 right end on defense...moved up to No. 2 at left end the conclusion of spring drills...had a solid spring and continued to improve...had one tackle in the final spring game at Hillsboro (5/1)...has made steady progress since arriving at OSU...playing time should increase this year...in the weight room, Dan has produced personal bests of 255 pounds in the hang clean, 335 in the bench press, 400 in the back squat and 280 in the incline...his vertical jump best is 28.00 inches.
(1998-Redshirt Freshman)--Dan improved a lot as a result of red-shirting and still has room to grow and will be given the opportunity to progress in a natural flow without being shoved into the mix before he is ready...defensive line coach Michael Gray loves his potential and sees an outstanding Pac-10 defensive lineman down the road...has good technique and desire...reported to fall camp listed as the No. 3 defensive tackle...played in four games, Nevada, Baylor, Arizona State and Arizona to earn a letter...posted one assisted tackle against Arizona State.
(1997-Freshman)--Dan spent the 1997 season as a redshirt defensive lineman.
ANTIOCH HIGH SCHOOL--(1994-96)--Dan earned two letters in football as a starting defensive end his junior year under Coach Mike Paul and a starting defensive end and tight end his senior year for Coach Ferris Anthony...caught 15 passes for 295 yards (19.7 average) and 6 touchdowns as a tight end...as a defensive end, he recorded 71 tackles, 11 quarterback sacks and 15 tackles for loss as a senior...had 13 solo tackles, 20 assisted tackles, 5 tackles for loss and 1 quarterback sack as a junior...following his senior year, he was named first-team all-league (BVAL) on defense and offense...also named first-team all-county on defense...was selected as the Dwayne Putnam award winner as his team's best offensive lineman and was also named his team's best defensive lineman as a senior on a 9-2 team...he was team captain as a senior...Antioch was 7-3 his junior year...his best individual game on offense was against Pinole Valley when he caught 2 passes for 35 yards and a TD...his best defensive game was against Monte Vista when he recorded 11 tackles, including 9 for loss yardage, and had 2 quarterback sacks...in addition to football, Dan earned letters in baseball and track and field...Coach Anthony said, "Dan is definitely a high-quality player and person. He has tremendous athletic ability and he is still growing. He grew nearly two inches between his junior and senior years."...according to Coach Anthony, he was heavily recruited by Washington, Stanford, California and Utah State.
