PERSONAL--Born 12/11/78 in Santa Clara, CA...son of Richard and Karen Brown-Davis...he entered OSU with a 3.5 GPA out of high school and currently is in the College of Engineering and is a pre-computer science major at OSU...he was high school class President as a junior...he was a member of National Honor Society all three years in high school...he was involved in numerous community service projects in high school and he won several academic honors...Jerry Rice is his favorite athlete...he selected OSU because, "school, coaches, educational opportunities, Pac-10, college town, and the opportunity to participate in rebuilding the program to greatness."
OSU-(2000-Senior)--Greg enters his senior year having played in 26 out of a possible 34 games...he has primarily been a special teams player...he served as the Beavers’ long snapper as a freshman and will be a backup long snapper in 2000...he has 63 career defensive points...entered spring drills as the No. 2 middle linebacker behind Tevita Moala...after Moala suffered a spring ending knee injury after the first week of spring drills, redshirt freshman Richard Seigler was moved to middle linebacker and he battled with Greg the rest of the spring for the No. 1 spot...Greg had by far his most consistent spring and his overall performance was much better...when he reports to fall camp, Greg will be listed No. 3 at middle linebacker behind Moala and Seigler...Greg gives OSU an experienced backup at middle linebacker and a solid special teams player...he did not miss a day of spring drills...in the weigh room, Greg posted bests of 425 pounds in the back squat, 280 in the bench press and 264 in the power clean.
(1999-Junior)--Greg played entirely on special teams during the 1999 season and produced 13 defensive points and 3 solo tackles and 4 assisted tackles...he has played in 26 career games...he has 62 career defensive points, including 22 tackles...he returned for fall camp listed as the No. 3 middle linebacker and one of the backup deep snapper for punts, although he did not snap in a game during the 1999 season...credited with 2 tackles in the final spring game for the winning White squad...in the weight room, Greg has posted personal bests of 305 pounds in the hang clean; 325 in the bench press; 450 in the back squat and 250 in the incline...posted a 25.50 vertical jump.
(1998-Sophomore)--Greg got his OSU career off to a great start by playing in all 11 games as a freshman...he was in a three-way battle during spring drills at middle linebacker...Greg is a very intense player who really studies the game and works extremely hard...Greg wound up third on the depth chart at the conclusion of spring drills behind a pair of juniors, Jonathan Jackson and Brandon Boice...Greg attacks everything like he does in the classroom, all out...however, Greg was not one of the many players who stayed in Corvallis to work out during the summer and when he showed up at fall camp, it was obvious he did not spend as much time in his summer workouts as needed...as a result, Greg lost his job as long snapper...played in the Nevada season opener, but did not play in the next seven games...played in the final three games of the season and had one tackle in the California and UCLA games and was blanked in the Oregon contest.
(1997-Freshman)--Greg played in all 11 games as a true freshman, mostly on special teams as the Beavers’ long snapper on punts...Greg seemed to make a habit of getting down field first on punt coverage and he recorded 5 solo tackles all on punt coverage...wound up with 46 defensive points, 18th best on the squad...recovered 3 fumbles during the season, all on punt coverage, getting 2 in the UCLA game and 1 against Washington...had 24 defensive points in the Huskies game with a pair of fumble recoveries, plus a solo tackle and an assisted tackle.
DE LA SALLE HIGH SCHOOL, Concord, CA (1994-96)--Greg attended De La Salle Catholic High School in Concord, CA...Greg participated in football, wrestling and baseball...earned two letters in football, three in wrestling and three in baseball...placed third in wrestling in the southern section of the CIF at 191 pounds his junior year...wrestled at 212 pounds as a senior...played shortstop, third base and catcher in baseball...was a two-year starter at middle linebacker for the Spartans and Coach Bob Ladouceur and never played in a losing game as a prep football player...De La Salle finished 12-0 on the season his senior year and won the CIF division 3 championship in Southern California...the Spartans were also ranked as the #3 prep team in the nation by USA Today...De La Salle was ranked #1 in California and #3 in the nation by USA Today his junior year...as a senior, Greg had 56 solo tackles, 138 total tackles, 4 sacks and 10 tackles for loss...has 4.6 speed in the 40...was also recruited by Colorado State, UNLV, Utah State and San Jose State...he was listed #102 by SuperPrep Magazine's All-Far West Team...was a first-team all-league (Northern California-NCS) selection...his coach, Bob Ladouceur, said, "Greg is the smartest linebacker I have coached in 18 years. He was literally a coach on the field and was the main reason we shut out seven teams last year. He reads extremely well and is very quick to the ball. He will probably play at around 225 in college. I think Mike Riley has found a diamond in the rough in Greg. He was overlooked by a lot of people and I think he will be a big time player in college."
