PERSONAL—Born 3/2/81 in Bend, OR...son of Bill and Nancy Millar...his father is a professor at Western Oregon University and his mother is an accountant...he is in the College of Health and Human Performance and is an exercise and sport science major...entered OSU with a 3.86 GPA...he has an older sister, Michelle, 23...enjoys snowboarding, basketball and the outdoors...member of National Honor Society and was on the Beaverton High School honor roll...he was a Multnomah Athletic Club scholar athlete...current OSU linebacker Erik Tuma was a prep teammate...Jalen Rose and Kirby Puckett are his favorite athletes....playing for the Oregon 4A state football championship in 1997 was his top athletic thrill as a prep...selected OSU because, “of the location, campus, cost and the College of Health and Human Performance.”
OSU—(2003—Senior)—John has been OSU’s backup punter for the past two seasons...John, who remains a walk-on, will remain in the same role this season, backing up Carl Tobey...he proved to be a very adequate punter during spring drills...John has posted weightlifting bests of 285 in the back squat, 210 in the bench press, 231.5 in the power clean and 203.9 in the push press...he has a 34.5 inch vertical jump and has a 40 time of 4.95.
(2002—Junior)—John, a walk-on, did not participate in any games in 2002...he has played in one game in his OSU career and got off a 35-yard punt vs. Northern Arizona in 2001...he competed against veteran Carl Tobey and redshirt freshman Ryan Cozzetto during spring drills...in the second scrimmage of the spring, John punted one time for 36 yards...in the Spring Game, he punted for the White squad and averaged 40.0 yards per punt on three attempts with a long of 48...he will return to fall camp listed No. 2 behind Tobey on the punting depth chart...he also worked as a holder for PAT and field goal attempts during the spring...during winter conditioning, John posted weightlifting bests of 255 in the back squat, 195 in the bench press, 203 in the power clean and 182 in the push press...his vertical jump best was 23 inches.
(2001—Sophomore)—John got into his first collegiate game when he punted the ball one time against Northern Arizona for 35 yards...he did not letter.
(2000—Freshman Redshirt)—John, a walk-on, turned out for football for the first time during the spring of 2000...he spent the 2000 season as a backup punter.
BEAVERTON HIGH SCHOOL, Beaverton, OR (1997-99)—John was a two-year letterman in football as a punter and defensive end for Coach Faustin Riley...he also played two years of basketball and participated in track and field three years as a high jumper and 800 meter runner...he earned second team all-league (Metro League) as a punter his senior year (1998)...his best punt as a junior was a 57-yarder vs. Tigard and his top punt as a senior was a 56-yarder vs. Lake Oswego.
