PERSONAL--Born 12/19/79 in Toledo, OR...son of Ray and Debra Marthaller...Bo is in the College of Liberal Arts and is an Economics major...he has four brothers, Bruce, 23; Brian, 22; Loy 8 and Dave 4...entered OSU with a 3.2 GPA out of Toledo High School...selected OSU because, “of the engineering program.”
OSU--(2000-Senior)--Bo enters his senior season having played in 20 games for OSU, all as a walk-on...he has been a valuable contributor on special teams and has seen some action as a backup safety...he has a total of 54 career defensive points, including 11 tackles and a pair of interceptions...reported to spring drills as the No. 3 strong safety...will report to fall camp as the No. 4 free safety...he is capable of playing either safety position, but his real value, once again, will be on special teams...in winter conditioning, Bo posted weightlifting bests of 310 in the back squat, 225 in the bench press and 231 in the power clean.
OSU--(1999-Junior)--Bo entered his junior season as a two-year letterman and remains a walk-on player in the program...he has played in a total of 15 games in two years as a backup safety and on special teams...entered spring drills as the No. 2 free safety and he was moved to strong safety during the spring...will report to fall camp as the No. 3 strong safety behind Terrence Carroll and Jake Cookus...Bo has always been a hardworker since joining the Beaver football program...gets a lot out of his ability...in the final Spring game, Bo recorded 4 solo tackles and broke up 2 passes for the winning White squad...Bo has 45 career defensive points, including 7 solo tackles and 2 interceptions, both coming in his freshman year...the interceptions were against North Texas in the season opener and vs. Oregon in the Civil War game in Eugene...in the weight room, Bo has produced personal bests of 235 pounds in the hang clean, 250 in the bench press, 380 in the back squat and 225 in the incline...his best vertical jump has been 33.00 inches and he tested for only 4.87 percent body fat.
(1998-Sophomore)--Bo earned a letter as a walk-on in 1997 and he seems to be a player with a real nose for the football...for a non-recruited player out of small 3A Toledo High School, Bo has impressed a lot of people at OSU with his ability and work ethic...he wants to play football and he always seems to make plays, whether it's in practice or a game...he had a very impressive spring and came up with a pass interception in OSU's first of three major scrimmages and again in the final Spring game...hard work and determination got him to the No. 2 spot at free safety behind Terrence Carroll on the Beavers' depth chart...Bo played in five games in 1998...played in the first four games--Nevada, Baylor, USC and ASU--and then did not play against Utah State or Stanford...played in the Arizona game and suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee and missed the final four games of the season...recorded 2 solo tackles in the Nevada game and also 2 solo tackles in the Arizona game.
(1997-Redshirt Freshman)--Bo impressed Mike Riley's staff with his work ethic as a walk-on during spring drills in 1997 and earned himself an opportunity to play for the Beavers...wound up playing in 10 games in 1997, missing only the Stanford game...played mainly on special teams, but he did see some action at free safety in a backup role...usually when he was in the game, he made things happen...broke up a pass and made his first career interception in the season opener against North Texas...intercepted a pass against Oregon...compiled 33 defensive points, which ranked 23rd on the club.
(1996-Freshman)--Bo joined the OSU team in the fall of 1996 as a walk-on freshman and was redshirted as a defensive back.
TOLEDO HIGH SCHOOL, Toledo, OR-- (1993-95)--Bo earned three high school letters at Toledo in football, basketball and baseball...he was the starting quarterback for three years, starting point guard in basketball for three years and starting center fielder in baseball for three years...he was an honorable mention all-league (Val-CO) selection in football as a sophomore and junior and a first-team selection as a senior...co-captain of the football team his senior year...he was a second-team all-league pick as a junior in basketball and a first-team all-league pick as a senior, plus he was named the Player of the Year in basketball his senior year...played in the state prep basketball all-star game following his senior year and was an alternate for the Shrine All-Star football game in the summer of 1996.
