PERSONAL--Born 10/21/77 in Victoria, Texas...son of N.E. (Pete) Tompkins Jr. and Lynn Tompkins...his father is an electrician...has an older sister, Lisa Cradit, 29, and a younger brother, Lance, 19...he is in the College of Agriculture and is an animal science major...hobbies include hunting, camping, snow skiing, basketball and church.
OSU--(1999-Senior)--Roddy enters his senior year having played in all 33 games since he arrived at OSU...has started 30 games...had a streak of 29 straight starts stopped at Washington (10/24) in 1998...Roddy enters 1999 with 90 career receptions for 1,265 yards and 1,440 all-purpose yards...he is tied for 10th on OSU's career reception list with Lee Overton...three more receptions moves him into ninth place...Roddy's top individual game for receptions was 10 vs. UCLA in 1997...his best individual game to date was against Washington in 1998, the first game in his career he did not start...caught 9 passes for 210 yards, including a 90-yarder from Jonathan Smith, the third longest pass play in OSU history...his 210 yards receiving is he second highest receiving total in OSU history...the 210 all-purpose yards is the 13th best single-game mark in OSU history...has caught at least one pass in 26 of 33 games...Roddy, who will be playing for his third head coach (Dennis Erickson) in his OSU career, entered spring drills listed No. 1 at split end...completed the spring No. 1 at split end...in the three spring scrimmages, he caught 2 passes for 23 yards at Roseburg (4/17)...did not play in the second scrimmage and caught 5 passes for 99 yards, including a 54-yard TD pass from Terrance Bryant for the winning White squad in the final spring game at Hillsboro (5/1)...in the weight room, Roddy has produced personal bests of 240 pounds in the hang clean, 300 in the bench press, 370 in the back squat, 260 in the incline...his best vertical jump is 30.00 inches and he tested for only 4.49 percent body fat.
(1998-Junior)--Roddy entered his junior season having started all 22 games in his OSU career...going into his junior year, he had caught 61 career passes for 834 yards, for an average of 13.7 yards per catch...had caught 5 touchdown passes...had 15 career punt returns for 122 yards (8.1 average) and he had 1,001 all-purpose yards on 81 plays, an average of 12.4 per play...Roddy had caught passes in 18 of his 22 starts as a Beaver...he had a career long of catch of 71 yards as a freshman against California...had individual catches of 71 yards, 57 yards, 40 yards, 37 yards, 35 yards and 26 yards...Roddy started spring drills as OSU's No. 1 split end and he completed the spring in the same capacity...enjoyed a very successful spring and appeared to have improved his game...also in the mix to return punts... Roddy is a workhorse receiver and a big play receiver...had some problems with consistency catching the football, but was very consistent during the spring...caught 3 passes for 98 yards in the spring game, including a 65-yarder...caught 5 for 64 yards in the first spring scrimmage...Roddy had the greatest pass receiving day of his career to date during the first game he did not start, after starting 29 straight games in his three-year OSU career...Roddy caught 9 passes for 210 yards, including a 90-yard TD pass, against Washington (10/24) in his 30th career game...produced 210 yards receiving against the Huskies, which is the second best mark in OSU history and the 210 all-purpose yards is the 13th best mark, and the 90-yard TD reception against Washington is the third longest pass play in OSU history, and second longest TD pass...returned as a starter against California (10/31)...suffered a bruised knee in the California game and did not start against UCLA (11/7) and Oregon (11/21) and saw very limited action in both games...has started 30 of his 33 games as a Beaver...caught 2 passes for 37 yards vs. California...for only the fifth time in his Beaver career, Roddy failed to catch a pass in a game (Arizona, 10/17) and was completely blanked statistically...caught 2 passes for 46 yards at Stanford (10/10)...at Utah State (10/3) he caught 2 passes for 14 yards...Roddy posted his second best performance of the season at Arizona State (9/26) with 8 receptions for 77 yards...opened the 1998 season with 3 receptions against Nevada (9/5) and followed with 1 catch against Baylor (9/12), a 14-yard touchdown, and 2 receptions at USC (9/19) for 9 yards...also caught a TD pass against Baylor as a freshman in 1996...Roddy finished his junior season with 90 career receptions for 1,265 yards and 1,440 all-purpose yards...he is tied for 10th on OSU's career reception list with Lee Overton...three more receptions moves him into ninth place...Roddy's top individual game for receptions was 10 vs. UCLA in 1997.
(1997-Sophomore)--Roddy started all 11 games during his sophomore season, giving him 22 straight starts, a start in every game since he has been at OSU...caught 46 passes for 538 yards, an average of 11.7 per game and caught 3 touchdown passes as the Beavers went to a balanced offense under Mike Riley...he returned 15 punts for 122 yards, an average of 8.1, with a long return of 31 yards...had 690 all-purpose yards on 63 plays, an average of 11.0 per play...his 46 receptions was second among Beaver receivers and he ranked 14th in the Pac-10 with 46 receptions and ranked 21st in the conference in receiving yardage with 48.91 yards per game...caught a pass in 10 of OSU's 11 games...did not catch a pass against USC...his top individual game was against UCLA when he caught 10 passes, a career high for Roddy and this put him in a tie for fifth place on OSU's single-game pass receiving list...his 46 receptions placed him 12th on OSU's season Top 10 list...finished 10th in the Pac-10 with a 8.13 average on punt returns...Roddy, who is a native of Texas, caught a then career-high 7 passes against North Texas for 77 yards and a touchdown in the season opener...he was OSU's second-leading receiver with 15 in 1996...he has proven already that he has excellent hands and exceptional speed...in the 1996 spring game, Roddy made two circus catches of a 31 and 33-yarder...entered spring drills as the No. 1 flanker and was firmly entrenched in that spot when spring drills ended...he proved to be a very durable player his rookie year and never missed a day of practice in 1996.
(1996-Freshman)--Roddy was a late summer signee (June) with OSU and he turned out to be a great catch...Roddy wound up starting all 11 games for OSU at flanker, becoming the first true freshman to start in the first game of his career since Dennis Boyd started as a true freshman at defensive end for Coach Dee Andros in 1973 at Auburn...he basically won the starting job following OSU's first fall preseason scrimmage...Roddy participated in a total of 606 plays...caught 15 passes to be OSU's second leading receiver on a wishbone team...the 15 passes caught covered 296 yards, an average of 19.7 per catch, and he scored 2 touchdowns...his first collegiate touchdown came in his home state of Texas as he caught a 57-yarder vs. Baylor for six points...his other TD catch was a 37-yarder vs. Oregon in the Civil War...caught a 71-yard non-scoring pass vs. California, which was the longest pass play in the Jerry Pettibone coached era at OSU...the 71-yard matched the 12th longest pass play in Beaver football history...caught at least one pass in 8 of the Beavers' 11 games, missing a reception in only the Stanford, Arizona State and Northern Illinois games...carried the football 3 times for 15 yards, giving him 311 all-purpose yards on 18 plays, an average of 17.3...as a result of his play, he was selected as the Beavers' Rookie of the Year on offense.
VICTORIA HIGH SCHOOL--(1993-95)--Roddy earned three letters in football, three in track and one in basketball for the Victoria High School Stingarees in District 30, 5A...played football under Coach Mark Reeve and was a starter as a junior and senior...was a sprinter and long jumper in track and was the point guard his senior year on the basketball team...as a junior and senior, Roddy started at wide receiver and cornerback...during his senior season intercepted 4 passes on defense and caught 35 passes for 818 yards (23.3 average) and 11 touchdowns...carried the ball 3 times for 66 yards (22.0 average) and returned punts and kickoffs...caught 8 passes for 191 yards and 1 TD pass against C.C. Moody High School and had 3 TDs and 141 yards in another game...during his junior season, Roddy caught 10 passes for 258 yards and 4 touchdowns, plus he carried the ball 8 times for 100 yards...caught 1 pass for 25 yards in his sophomore season...earned several honors following his senior year...was named first-team all-district on offense and defense, first-team All-South Texas on offense and defense, first-team mid-coast area on offense and defense and third team all-state by the Associated Press on offense and defense...also selected to play in the Texas High School Coaches Association North-South All-Star game, which was played on July 30 at the Houston Astro Dome...he was a first team all-district pick on offense and defense as a junior...posted bests in track his senior year of 22-8 1/2 in the long jump, 10.6 in the 100 meters and 21.46 (school record) in the 200 meters...placed third in the 100 in the state regional meet, just missing qualifying for the state meet...was recruited by several schools, but visited Texas A&M, Wyoming, TCU and New Mexico in addition to Oregon State.
