William Kanani Souza is in his first year as a graduate assistant coach for the offense. He will serve one season and then return to his full-time job as head coach and assistant athletic director at Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu.
Souza has spent the last nine years as head coach at Kapalama, compiling a record of 79-25-2. In 2004, he led the Warriors to a 10-1-1 record and to the program's first Hawai'i High School Athletic Association title.
Prior to his tenure at Kapalama he was an 11-year assistant coach at the University of Hawai'i, and in 1995 served as the Warriors' offensive coordinator. Souza also was the defensive line coach during his Hawai'i career. His collegiate coaching experience also includes one season at University of Colorado and five seasons at the University of Northern Colorado.
The native of Honolulu is a 1969 graduate of Northern Colorado, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He later earned a master's from UNC and was on the coaching staff during his graduate studies. Upon leaving Northern Colorado he returned to the Islands where he became a high school teacher. Souza also attended Bemidji State in Minnesota from 1963-64 and played one seasons as a cornerback and halfback.
