PERSONAL—(Pronounced Shuh-MAHN JAY-mer-son) Born 11/9/79...he is the son of Mary Jamerson...he has one sister, Navia...he is in the College of Liberal Arts and is a speech communication major...his biggest athletic thrill to date is receiving a scholarship from Oregon State...selected OSU because, “of the good opportunities.”
OSU—(2002—Junior)—Shamon enters his junior season having played in 22 of a possible 23 games...he has played as a backup corner and safety and on special teams...he has produced a career total of 80 defensive points, based on 22 tackles (21 solo), one recovered fumble and two passes broken up...Shamon has been a valuable backup for two years...he opened spring drills as a backup strong safety...missed the final two weeks of spring drills with a sprained right ankle...he will report to fall camp listed No. 2 on the depth chart at strong safety, but could be moved to cornerback when practice gets underway...during winter conditioning, Shamon posted weightlifting bests of 345 in the back squat, 320 in the bench press, 242 in the power clean and 226 in the push press...his best verticial jump mark was 31 inches.
(2001—Sophomore Redshirt)—Shamon played in all 11 games in 2001 as a backup safety and corner, plus he participated on special teams...he produced 45 defensive points, which ranked 16th among OSU defenders...he accounted for 13 tackles and broke up two passes...he had two tackles at Fresno State and one at New Mexico State...had three tackles vs. UCLA and broke up a pass...had one tackle at home vs. Arizona and broke up a pass...had two tackles vs. California and one at USC...had two tackles vs. Washington and one against Northern Arizona...he did not record any defensive points at WSU, ASU and Oregon...after redshirting in 2000, Shamon opened spring drills with the idea of winning the starting job left open by the graduation of Keith Heyward-Johnson…Shamon was listed No. 2 on the depth chart at left corner at the start of spring drills, the same spot he held when fall camp opened…Shamon continues to improve his strength and posted weightlifting bests in the winter program of 475 in the squat, 295 in the bench press and 231.5 in the power clean.
(2000—Sophomore)—Oregon State had the luxury of having several veteran cornerbacks in 2000 and the decision was made in fall camp to redshirt Shamon during the season, still leaving him with three years of eligibility… Shamon entered his sophomore season as a battle-tested veteran, having played in 11 of 12 games in 1999...most of his action was on special teams...he opened spring drills as the No. 2 right corner behind the 1999 starter, Dennis Weathersby...he concluded spring drills No. 2 at left corner behind Weathersby...Shamon had a very productive spring and showed marked improvement...he had one interception in the first major scrimmage...in winter conditioning he posted weightlifting bests of 305 in the back squat, 275 in the bench press and 209 in the power clean.
(1999—Freshman)—Shamon played in 11 of 12 games as a true freshman in 1999...he did not play against USC...Shamon spent most of his playing time on special teams, but he did see some action as a backup cornerback behind another freshman, Dennis Weathersby...Shamon produced 35 defensive points on 9 tackles and a recovered fumble...he made one of the big plays in the Arizona game when he recovered a fumble on special teams...the Wildcats had a punt bounce off Arizona’s David Laudermilk and Shamon recovered the ball at the Wildcats’ 4-yard line...Ken Simonton scored two plays later to give OSU a 21-13 lead en route to a 28-20 victory that propelled the Beavers into the O’ahu Bowl...Shamon enrolled at OSU at the start of winter quarter and participated in spring practice, giving him five years to play four...Shamon had a productive spring and continued to improve...he finished the spring as the No. 2 right cornerback...in the final Spring Game, Shamon had 5 solo tackles and broke up a pass for the winning White squad...in the weight room, Shamon posted personal bests of 165 pounds in the hang clean, 280 in the bench press, 365 in the back squat and 235 in the incline...produced a vertical jump best of 31.00 inches and tested for only 6.55 percent body fat.
(1998-Freshman)—Shamon signed a letter of intent with OSU in February of 1998...did not enroll at OSU until winter quarter, 1999.
PALISADES HIGH SCHOOL, Pacific Palisades, CA (1995-98)—Shamon was a PrepStar Magazine all-region (West) pick in its preseason issue at wide receiver and honorable mention All-American on defense...ran the 40 in 4.5 in high school...had a 38-inch vertical leap in high school...was named the defensive player of the year in the Coastal Conference-Western Division as a junior and senior...played at Hamilton High School as a sophomore and junior before transferring to Palisades...he was a three-year Coastal Conference-Western League all-star and as a senior was All-CIF (4A) Southern Section, All-West Side and the West Side Player of the Year...also earned all-league honors on offense at wide receiver two years in a row...recruited by Arizona State, Arizona, California, USC, New Mexico, San Diego State and UCLA...lettered in track, running the 100 and 200 meters...played for assistant coach Carter Austin and head coach Ron Price at Palisades...“He’s an outstanding person, and obviously a great receiver, punt returner, kickoff returner, safety and cornerback. We loved having him as a wide receiver because he was very acrobatic, he will dive for any ball. Every ball is catchable to him; if it’s in the vicinity, he’ll come down with it,” said coach Austin...as a junior at Hamilton, he was all-city, all-conference and team MVP...Shamon had 13 pass receptions for 200 yards (15.4 avg.) and one touchdown as a sophomore...had eight interceptions, 42 pass receptions for 900 yards (21.4 average) and 6 TDs with a long of 85 yards as a junior...his best game as a junior was against Fairfax High School when he scored three touchdowns and had over 200 yards in receiving yardage...had 39 receptions for 749 yards (19.2 average) and five touchdowns with a long of 79 yards as a senior, plus he had six interceptions on defense...scored two touchdowns on kickoff returns, including a long return of 91 yards...all told, he caught 94 passes in three years for 1,849 yards (19.7 avg.) and 12 touchdowns...Palisades recorded a 10-2 record in 1997 and lost in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section CIF playoffs...coach Price said, “Shamon will be an impact player in college.”
