PERSONAL--(Pronounced--MAHN-jerr-oh)Born 9/30/75 in Bellflower, CA...son of Debra Perkins...he has one younger brother, Michael Brown, 14...enjoys playing basketball...Michael Jordan is his favorite athlete...his top athletic thrill to date was defeating Long Beach City College in 1998, a game in which he caught 6 passes for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns...selected OSU because, "it felt like I was suppose to be there."
OSU--(2000-Senior)--Monjero enters his senior season having played in nine games with one start...he has 20 career receptions for 275 yards and 2 touchdowns, plus he has returned 19 punts for 122 yards, giving him 422 all-purpose yards, an average of 46.9 yards per game...he reported to spring drills listed No. 2 at split end...he moved ahead of Shawn Kintner in the final week of spring drills to claim the No. 1 spot, and that is where he will start on the depth chart when fall camp opens...he has the best overall speed of the returning wide receivers and can be a game breaker...in OSU’s four spring scrimmages, he caught a 44-yard pass in the first scrimmage...in the second scrimmage he caught 3 passes for 36 yards...in the third scrimmage, Monjero caught 4 passes for 47 yards...in the Spring Game, he played on the losing Black squad and caught 3 passes for 40 yards, giving him 9 receptions for 167 yards, an average of 18.6 yards per catch...in winter conditioning Monjero posted a bench press lift of 205 pounds and a power clean lift of 187 pounds.
OSU-(1999-Junior)--Monjero will enroll at OSU at the start of fall term and report to fall camp on August 9 and is listed as a slot receiver on the depth chart...OSU is expecting Monjero to be part of its receiving corps in 1999 and he should give the Beavers another deep threat.
WEST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE, Culver City, CA--Listed #40 on SuperPrep Magazine's list of top 100 JUCO players in the nation...listed as one of the junior college hot 50 players by Student Sports Magazine...averaged 20 yards a catch and 29 inch vertical jump at NIKE Training Camp in the summer of 1998...scholarships were offered from USC, Arizona, Kansas State, San Diego State and Washington State and ended up selecting OSU over San Diego State...runs 4.4 in the 40...he caught 35 passes for 645 yards, an average of 18.4 yards per catch, and 7 touchdowns for West Los Angeles College in 1998, while playing for Coach Bob Hagar...returned 7 punts for 340 yards (48.6 average), including a punt return for a touchdown in Western State Bowl game against Ventura College, which West Los Angeles College (7-4 on the season) lost 23-14...he was first-team all-league (Western State) selection as a sophomore...Darryl Holmes, the offensive coordinator for West Los Angeles College says, "Monjero is very explosive, has great hands and is a game breaker. We have had some great receivers here in the program, such as Keyshawn Johnson and Chris Miller at USC, and he is right there with those guys."
EL CAMINO COLLEGE, Torrance, CA--Played as a freshman at El Camino College in 1997...caught 33 passes for 800 yards (24.2 average) and 11 touchdowns as a freshman at El Camino.
HAWTHORNE HIGH SCHOOL--Played one year of football (1994) at Hawthorne High School in Hawthorne, CA, under Coach Dan Robbins...Hawthorne produced a 10-2 record in 1994, his senior season...also lettered in basketball and in track and field as a high jumper...he caught 20 passes for 400 yards (20.0 average) and 6 touchdowns as a senior wide receiver...played defense as a cornerback and intercepted 2 passes...also returned 6 punts for 115 yards (19.2 average)...he was a first-team all-league (Bay League) selection in basketball his senior year, plus he was a first-team all-league selection as a high jumper in track and field.
