PREVIOUS COACHING EXPERIENCE:
(1994-96)--Eric got his first start in coaching at his alma mater, University of Idaho, in 1994 as an undergraduate offensive assistant and film coordinator. He was named full time as an assistant at Idaho in January, 1996, as secondary coach. Coached under Chris Tomey at Idaho.
(1996-98)--Following the 1996 season, Eric moved to UNLV as wide receiver coach under Jeff Horton following the 1996 season at Idaho. Eric coached at UNLV for only one season, 1997.
(1998)--Joined Dennis Erickson’s Seattle Seahawks staff in March, 1998, as an offensive quality control coach.
(1999)--Joined Dennis Erickson’s Oregon State staff as running backs coach.
(2000)--Eric’s position assignment was changed to wide receivers following the 1999 season.
PREP ATHLETIC RECORD: Attended Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles, CA, graduating in 1981. Eric participated in football at Crenshaw.
COLLEGE ATHLETIC RECORD: Attended the University of Idaho for two seasons (1984-85) after spending two years in junior college at Los Angeles Valley in Los Angeles in 1982-83. Played for Dennis Erickson at Idaho and was named Big Sky Conference Most Valauble Player as a senior after catching 75 passes for 1,103 yards. As a junior, he finished 10th in the nation in punt returns and third in the conference with 817 yards pass receiving on 54 catches. He was named Kodak All-American following his senior year in 1985. He was a first-team All-Big Sky Conference selection as a junior and senior. At Los Angeles Valley, Eric was honorable mention all-league as a freshman and first-team all-league as a sophomore. Named MVP of the Los Angeles Valley squad as a sophomore. Named second team all-state by the JC Athletic Bureau his sophomore year.
PROFESSIONAL ATHLETIC RECORD: Eric was selected in the 12th round of the NFL draft in 1986 by the Washington Redskins and he played for their Super Bowl championship squad in 1988. He played three seasons for the Redskins and one season for the San Diego Chargers (1989).
EDUCATION: Attended Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles, CA, graduating in 1981. He attended Los Angeles Valley College in Los Angeles from 1982-84. Earned his B.S. in general studies with an emphasis in criminal justice from the University of Idaho in December 1995.
PERSONAL: Eric is single. His son, Robert, is a senior at West Albany High School.
RECRUITING AREA: San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles.
NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Played four years in the NFL, including winning a Super Bowl ring with the 1988 Super Bowl champion Washington Redskins. Earned All-America honors as a senior at the University of Idaho, while playing under Coach Dennis Erickson. The NFL drafted two of Eric’s OSU receivers from the 2000 season. Chad Johnson was a second round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals and T.J. Houshmandzadeh was a seventh round pick by Cincinnati.
