PERSONAL--Born 7/2/77 in Santa Ana, CA...son of Linwood Wells Sr., and Barbara Wells...his father is a physician assistant and his mother is a housewife...has four brothers and sisters, Linwood Jr., 23; Seth, 20; Abigail, 7, and JoAnna, 6...he is in the College of Liberal Arts and is a liberal studies major...enjoys reading comic books and playing video games...Dan Marino is his favorite athlete...his top athletic thrill as a prep athlete was defeating Charter Oak High School when both teams were undefeated...selected OSU because, "the area is nice and I liked the coaches, plus I have relatives in Oregon."
OSU--(1999-Senior)--Aaron is the most experienced defensive lineman on the OSU roster, having played in 31 games and started in 16...earned first-team All-Academic honors in the Pac-10 Conference in 1998...solid team leader...plays with tremendous desire...has great technique and uses his quickness to compensate for his small size for the position...has also been a very durable player for OSU...reported to spring drills as the No. 1 defensive left tackle and will report to fall camp in the same position...in the weight room, Aaron has produced personal bests of 315 pounds in the hang clean, 400 in the bench press, 435 in the back squat and 370 in the incline...his vertical jump best is 27.00 inches.
(1998-Junior)--Aaron took advantage of the off-season to add 15 pounds and was up to 252, which is still very light for a Pac-10 defensive lineman...he does have the advantage of being a lot quicker than the people he plays against, plus he is very strong and gets good leverage...has played in 20 games in two years for OSU and has started six games at defensive tackle...went into spring drills No. 1 at that position and concluded the spring in the same position...his year of experience and size increase has definitely made Aaron a better football player...his work ethic is outstanding and he is a very coachable player and a good team leader...Aaron played in all 11 games for OSU...started 10 games...did not start against Oregon only to allow a senior, James Greule, to start in his spot...produced a total of 87 defensive points, coming on 15 solo tackles and 22 assisted tackles...Aaron was honored at season end by being first team on the Pac-10 Conference All-Academic squad...Aaron is a great team leader and just goes about his business day in and day out in a quiet workmanlike fashion.
(1997-Sophomore)--Aaron had a solid sophomore season for OSU...played in all 11 games at defensive tackle and started six games, North Texas, Stanford, ASU, San Jose State, Utah State and Oregon...his size, 234 pounds, hampered him in 1997...he is a player with excellent technique and toughness, but his size hurt him against most Pac-10 teams...registered a total of 117 defensive points in 1997, the 12th best mark on the team...had 35 tackles, including 23 solo...he registered 1 sack and 5 tackles for loss and he broke up 1 pass and had 2 quarterback hurry plays...had his best individual game against California when he led OSU with 33 defensive points, based on 5 tackles, 1 quarterback sack and 3 tackles for loss...Aaron was probably playing out of position because of his size (6-0, 237 at the start of spring drills), but because of his strength and quickness he was able to make plays and get the job done on the defensive line...opened spring drills as the No. 2 nose guard and he finished the spring as the No. 1 tackle on the defensive line...in fact, most of OSU's defensive linemen are quick, explosive players with good strength.
(1996-Redshirt Freshman)--Aaron opened spring drills as the No. 3 middle linebacker, where he played as a redshirt freshman...Aaron was moved to defensive end midway through the spring and played very well and reported to fall camp as the No. 2 right defensive end...Aaron earned his letter in 1996 by playing in a total of nine games in 1996 and participated in 96 plays...scored 40 defensive points, including 12 vs. Washington...most of his early season play was on special teams, but he saw more action on the field in the final half of the season...he proved he had a real nose for the football by producing 16 tackles during his 96 plays...following the season, Aaron was honored by being named honorable mention on the Pac-10 All-Academic team.
(1995-Freshman)--Aaron spent the 1995 season as a redshirt linebacker and he performed so well that he received the OSU Coaches Award for the defensive scout Player of the Year following the season.
GANESHA HIGH SCHOOL, Pomona, CA--(1992-94)--Aaron was a three-year letterman and two-year starter for Coach Gary Norvell and Ganesha High School at inside linebacker and center...started on offense as a junior and on defense as a senior...he was a two-time all-league (Valle Vista League) pick, as a center his junior year and at ILB his senior year...also was named first-team All-San Gabriel Valley by the Los Angeles Times and was a first-team All-CIF selection for section 7...he was a standout heavyweight wrestler and was 25-2 as a senior...earned three letters in wrestling...participated in track during the spring of his senior year...his older brother, Lynwood, wrestled at the Air Force Academy...was recruited by Wyoming, Utah and OSU. "He plays hard on every play and is a tremendous competitor," said Coach Norvell.
