PERSONAL—Born 8/15/81 in Portland, OR...son of Wayne and Marianne Davis...his father is a contractor and his mother is a business manager...he is in the College of Liberal Arts and is a sociology major...has an older brother, Jeff, 39, and sister, Jeannie, 37... Tony Bosselli is his favorite athlete...getting a scholarship at OSU has been his top athletic thrill...selected OSU because, “I like where the program is headed.”
OSU—(2003—Senior)—This will be Matt’s fifth year in the OSU program and he earned his first letter as a junior in 2002, playing in five games...Matt has been a hard worker during his tenure with the Beavers and has contributed to the success of OSU’s offensive line as a backup guard...he completed spring drills as the No. 3 right guard...in weightlifting, Matt has posted bests of 420 in the back squat, 330 in the bench press, 275.6 in the power clean and 303.1 in the push press...his top vertical jump is 21.5 inches.
(2002—Junior)—Matt earned his first letter at Oregon State by playing in five games—Eastern Kentucky, UNLV, Fresno State, California and Pittsburgh...he reported to spring drills as the No. 3 right guard and worked his way to No. 2 at left guard at the conclusion of spring drills...he reported to fall camp as the No. 2 left guard behind Mike Kuykendall...during winter conditioning, Matt posted weightlifting bests of 375 in the back squat, 320 in the bench press, 259 in the power clean and 254 in the push press...his vertical jump best was 19.5 inches.
(2001—Sophomore)—Matt spent the 2001 season as a No. 3 right guard and did not get into any games...he reported to spring drills as the No. 3 right guard…he remained in the same position at the conclusion of spring drills…he played behind senior Paul Davidian…Matt produced weightlifting bests of 320 in the bench press, 420 in the squat and 275.6 in the power clean during winter conditioning.
(2000—Freshman Redshirt)—After redshirting in 1999, Matt reported to spring drills listed No. 4 at right guard...Matt was unable to make progress up the depth chart during spring drills and reported to fall camp as the No. 4 right guard, playing behind three seniors...Matt spent the entire season on the scout squad and did not get into any game action…in winter conditioning Matt posted weightlifting bests of 355 pounds in the back squat, 280 in the bench press and 225 in the power clean.
(1999—Freshman)—Matt spent the 1999 season as a redshirt offensive guard, working on the scout team.
NORTH SALEM HIGH SCHOOL-(1996-99)-Selected to PrepStar Magazine’s All-Western Region squad...Matt was a first-team Valley League selection in 1998 as an offensive guard, plus he was an honorable mention selection by The Oregonian...selected to Statesman-Journal’s all-region team...started at guard as a junior and earned honorable mention all-league (Valley) honors...also recruited by Oregon, Washington and Boise State...played for Coach Jerry Vellutine...he was a three-year track letterman in shot and discus... “Matt is going to be a good college football player,” said Vellutine... “He has all the things necessary, good feet, good balance and he is a joy to coach. He likes to please his coaches and strives for perfection. He hates to make a mistake and he will not be outworked.”...he was selected to play in the Oregon Bowl All-Star game at Portland’s Civic Stadium on July 17, 1999...according to PrepStar, “Davis has the size, quickness and athleticism you love in a big guy. Possesses great feet and balance and the upside of this talented youngster is the fact that he is still growing.”
