OSU--(1999-Redshirt Freshman)--Junior participated in spring drills for his first action after suffering a broken thumb in fall (1988) camp...Junior competed very well during the spring...he is playing in an area (wide receiver) where OSU has outstanding depth and the competition for playing time in 1999 will be intense...in the Beavers' three major spring scrimmages, Junior caught 3 passes for 50 yards in the 4/17 scrimmage; caught 3 for 30 yards in the 4/24 scrimmage and 3 for 29 yards for the winning White team in the spring game...will report to fall camp listed as OSU's No. 2 slot receiver...has a big upside as a receiver...in the weight room, Junior has posted lifting personal bests of 160 pounds in the hang clean; 250 in the bench press; 375 in the back squat; and 195 in the incline...has a vertical jump best of 30.00 and has been tested for only 7.01 percent body fat.
(1998-Freshman)--Junior was enjoying an outstanding fall camp with the Beavers in 1998 and was on his way to making the traveling squad and part of OSU's two-deep rotation at one the wide receiver positions, only to suffer a season-ending broken thumb that also required surgery to repair in the final preseason scrimmage of fall camp...in that scrimmage, he led all receivers with 13 receptions...he proved to be a tough receiver and displayed very good hands...as a result of his injury, Junior spent the 1998 season as a redshirt and was forced to watch from the sidelines while his thumb healed.
AMADOR VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL, Pleasanton, CA--(1994-97)--Junior earned four letters in football, three in basketball (did not play senior year) and three letters in baseball as a shortstop/second baseman at Amador Valley High School...he was a two-way starter (cornerback on defense) for three years...he would have been one of the top returning basketball guards in San Francisco Bay Area if he had played basketball as a senior...in fact, he was selected as a preseason second-team Grid-Hoop All-American by Student Sports Magazine as a combination football/basketball player...he was rated the 81st best football player in the Far West by SuperPrep Magazine...he won several honors as a player...was a first-team all-league (East Bay Athletic League) selection as a junior and senior on offense and defense; was a two-time all-county selection; was named the Sports Focus Player of the Year as a senior; the Herald newspaper Player of the Year as a senior; and he was listed as one of the top 100 players in the East Bay as a junior and senior...he earned first-team all-league honors in basketball as a sophomore while playing for Coach Don Underwood...played tailback on offense and cornerback on defense for Coach Rick Sira...was also recruited by Washington State, Fresno State, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, USC, UCLA, California and UNLV...runs the 40 in 4.45...in his Amador Valley High School career, Junior rushed for 3,385 yards and scored 53 touchdowns...he got called up to the varsity as a freshman late in the season and scored the winning touchdown in a 17-14 victory over arch rival Foothill High School...he rushed for 66 yards on 11 carries in that game...he had 99 yards rushing on 20 carries (4.9 avg.) and one touchdown as a freshman on a 6-4-1 team...as a sophomore, he carried the ball 69 times for509 yards (7.4 average) and scored 5 touchdowns, plus he caught one pass for 16 yards for Amador Valley as the Dons went 8-2...as a junior on a 12-1 team that lost in the finals of the North Coast Section CIF championships, he rushed for 1,357 yards on 173 carries (7.8) average and scored 27 touchdowns with a long run of 75 yards...caught 15 passes for another 347 yards (23.1 avg.) and 4 touchdowns with a long of 61 yards...Junior returned 6 punts for 150 yards (25.0 avg.) and one touchdown on a 80-yard run...as a senior, Amador Valley had a 11-2 record and lost the championship game in the North Coast Section of the CIF playoffs...carried the ball 162 times for 1,420 yards (8.8 average) and 20 touchdowns with a long run of 81 yards...caught 18 passes for 321 yards (17.8 avg.) and 5 touchdowns with a long of 77 yards...Junior returned 7 punts for 105 yards (15.0 avg.)...his four-year prep totals read as follows: 35 games; 424 carries; 3,385 yards rushing; 8.0 average per carry; 53 rushing touchdowns and a long run of 81 yards; 34 pass receptions; 684 yards; 20.1 average per catch; 9 touchdowns with a long of 77 yards; 13 punts returned for 255 yards (19.6 average) and 1 touchdown...all told, he scored 63 touchdowns and had 4,324 all-purpose yards...Junior started on defense as a junior and senior and had 4 pass interceptions as a junior and 5 as a senior...his best game as a prep player was against Monte Vista High School, scoring 6 touchdowns and 314 yards in total offense...as a prep player, he caught the football extremely well out of the backfield and Oregon State recruited Junior as a wide receiver...Coach Sira, said, "he is a tremendous athlete. He has great knowledge of the game and great vision. He has great overall speed and the ability to accelerate. He has soft hands and catches the football very well. He had only two fumbles in his entire high school career. He is the best running back to play at this school since Rick Kane (played at Oregon in 1973-74)."
