PERSONAL--Born 4/25/78 in Portland, OR...son of Fred and Patty Stanwood...Matt is in the College of Home Economics and Education and is a housing studies major...has one sister, Miranda, 23...entered OSU with a 3.0 GPA...enjoys golf and working on his car...had a 4.0 GPA as a senior and on Sam Barlow honor roll...Morton Anderson is his favorite player...playing in the 1994 baseball Babe Ruth World Series in Indiana has been his top athletic thrill...selected OSU because, “originally recruited by Jerry Pettibone as a walk-on kicker in 1996.”
OSU--(2000-Senior)--Matt, a walk-on, has played in one game in his OSU career, making one of two PAT attempts vs. UCLA in 1999...Matt entered spring drills as one of four place kickers on the roster and he was listed # 2 on the depth chart...he completed spring drills No. 2 behind Ryan Cesca and will report to fall camp in August in that spot...Matt posted weightlifting bests of 275 in the back squat, 255 in the bench press and 198 in the power clean during winter conditioning.
OSU--(1999-Junior)--Participated in spring drills and alternated with another walk-on, Bryan Beall, as OSU's place-kicker during the spring...in OSU's first scrimmage at Roseburg on April 27 he booted a 27-yard field goal...in the final spring game at Hillsboro on May 1, Matt missed on a 41-yard field goal attempt and made a 34-yard field goal for the Black squad...also successful on all three PAT attempts...will face the challenge of freshman recruit Ryan Cesca when fall camp opens...in the weight room, Matt has produced personal bests of 185 pounds in the hang clean, 255 in the bench press, 255 in the back squat and 230 in the incline...has a vertical jump best of 21.00 inches...tested for 8.3 percent body fat.

SAM BARLOW HIGH SCHOOL, Gresham, OR--(1994-96)--Matt earned letters in football (one), baseball (two) and soccer (two) at Sam Barlow High School...played shortstop and second base in baseball and played in the 1994 Babe Ruth World Series in the summer...in his one year of football, earned all-league (Mt. Hood Conference) honors as a kicker...booted 20 of 21 extra points and 3 of 4 field goals...was honorable mention all-league in soccer his senior year.
