PREVIOUS COACHING EXPERIENCE:
(1993-94)--Michael started his coaching career as the defensive line coach of the British Columbia Lions in the Canadian Football League.
(1995)--Following two years in the CFL, Michael moved to Weber State University as defensive line coach.
(1996)--Michael rejoined his college coach, Rich Brooks, with the St. Louis Rams in 1996 as a defensive assistant coach and quality control coach.
(1997-98)--Michael joined Mike Riley’s OSU staff in January as the Beavers’ defensive line coach.
(1999)--Michael was retained by Dennis Erickson as the Beavers’ defensive line coach.
PREP ATHLETIC CAREER: Michael played football and basketball at Lake Clifton High School in Baltimore, Maryland. He earned two letters each in football and basketball.
COLLEGE ATHLETIC CAREER: Michael attended West Hills College in Coalinga, CA, for two years (1979-80). He finished his college career at the University of Oregon where he earned two letters as a defensive tackle. Michael was a first-team Sunkist JC All-American in 1982.
PROFESSIONAL ATHLETIC CAREER: Michael is a nine-year veteran of the Canadian Football League. He spent his first four years with the British Columbia Lions (1983-86) as a defensive lineman. He then moved to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL for his final six seasons (1987-92), four of which were under Mike Riley. He played on three Grey Cup championship teams, 1985, ‘86 and ‘90. He was the CFL Rookie of the Year in 1983.
EDUCATION: Michael graduated from Lake Clifton High School in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1996. He graduated from West Hills College in Coalinga, CA, in 1981. He graduated from Oregon in 1983 with a B.S. in recreation parks and administration.
PERSONAL: Michael is married to the former Susan Cervenko, and they have one son, Parker, 8 (12/27/92)

NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Michael has four Canadian Football League championship rings for winning the Grey Cup championship, three as a player, 1985 and ‘88 with the B.C. Lions and in 1990 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers while Mike Riley was the head coach, and once as an assistant coach for the B.C. Lions in 1994. He was named the CFL Rookie of the Year in 1983. He was named defensive MVP of the 1988 Grey Cup. Michael coached defensive end DeLawrence Grant, a third round draft pick of the Oakland Raiders in 2000, along with defensive end LaDairis Jackson, who signed as a free agent with the Seattle Seahawks. Current defensive tackle Eric Manning was a first-team All-Pac-10 selection following the 2001 season.
