Jesse Cormier enters his third year at Oregon State after serving as the first assistant men’s soccer coach at West Virginia University in the Big East Conference from 2000-2001.
On the pitch, Cormier works primarily with OSU’s attacking element, specifically the midfield and front line. In 2002, that unit led the Pacific-10 Conference in seven of eight offensive categories, helping OSU to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
Over the course of the year, the Beavers either set new records or made new entries on the school’s all-time list 35 times and beat three teams that were ranked at one point during the season in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.
Off the field, Cormier serves as OSU’s recruiting coordinator and camp director, and helps with the Beavers’ year-round training.
With Cormier’s recruiting savvy, OSU’s last two classes of signees have been ranked 20th (2002) and 15th (2003) nationally by College Soccer News.
While at West Virginia, his responsibilities covered every aspect of the soccer program, including recruiting, training sessions, match preparation, fundraising, academic monitoring, and off-season strength and conditioning.
As an assistant at Bradley University, of the Missouri Valley Conference, from 1997-1999, Cormier was a major part of the program’s resurgence. He helped the team climb from a ranking of 192nd in 1996 (of 198 Division I programs) to a 14-2-2 record in 1998, a No. 14 national ranking and a Missouri Valley Conference Championship.
Cormier earned his Master’s Degree in Leadership and Human Services at Bradley.
The University of Vermont graduate began coaching as a youth team coach for the Oxford United Football Club in England in 1997.
Cormier holds a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma and USSF ‘B’ License.
Cormier brings a wealth of playing experience to Oregon State, as he played professionally in the ‘A’ League for the Cincinnati River Hawks and Connecticut Wolves, whom he led in scoring in 1997.
The peak of Cormier’s career was in 1997, when he competed in the prestigious English Second Division for the Oxford United Football Club.
Cormier started four years for Division I University of Vermont, where he was third on the school’s all-time scoring list and was a two-time All-East and all-conference first-teamer.
Cormier received his Bachelors Degree in History from Vermont.
Cormier’s family includes wife, Amy; son Kai (4), and daughter Parrish (3 months).
