Jennie Thompson is in her fifth season as a manager for the Oregon State gymnastics team.
She brings a wealth of international experience into the gym, as she spent eight years on the U.S. National Team. She was a member of the 1997 and 1999 U.S. World Championships Teams, and she won a bronze medal in the all-around at the 1999 Pan American Games. She was also the all-around champion at the 1999 Visa American Cup.
Thompson won the all-around at the 1996 and 1998 U.S. Classics, and she was third at the John Hancock U.S. Championships in 1999. In addition, she placed first on bars and was third on beam at the 1999 U.S. Championships.
Jennie was an excellent all-around gymnast, but her favorite event was vault. She was a 2000 Olympic hopeful, but because of a severe ankle injury, she was unable to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials. She retired from gymnastics and decided to pursue her college academic career at Oregon State.
Thompson, who attended Colerain High School, trained at the Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy under 1996 U.S. Olympic coach Mary Lee Tracy.
Jennie is majoring in exercise and sport science.
