Now in her third season, Angie Cates brings a great deal of experience to Oregon State University as the assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s golf programs.
A 1998 Washington State University graduate, Cates was a three-time All-American Scholar and Academic All-Pac-10 selection. She also competed on the Pac-10 All-Star USA team in Asia. In 1997, she won both the Seattle City Championship and the Washington State Championship. Subsequently, she was granted a sponsor’s exemption to play in the LPGA Safeco Classic in Seattle that same year.
Following graduation, Cates was an associate producer for three years at The Golf Channel.
In 2000, she opted to test her skills on the professional tour, playing both on The Futures Tour and The Challenge Tour. Her best finish was second place in the Telluride Classic.
Cates earned a bachelor’s degree in Communication with an emphasis in Broadcast News from WSU’s Edward R. Murrow School of Communication.
