UC SANTA BARBARA:
1999-2000: Payton averaged 9.5 points as a junior for the Gauchos -- he was the team’s third-leading scorer...he was UCSB’s leading scorer within Big West Conference action, averaging 12.0 points...he averaged 21.0 points in early February victories over Idaho and Cal Poly, earning him conference player of the week acclaim...he scored a career-high 28 points vs. Cal State-Fullerton, the most by any Gaucho for the season...also had a 27-point outing vs. Cal Poly...he had 12 double figure scoring games, including nine in conference action...played 20-plus minutes 17 times, including 12 of the last 13 contests.
1998-99: Payton made the switch to the off-guard position as a sophomore, after playing point guard as a freshman...fourth for the team in scoring at 9.1 points per game...scored in double figures 12 times, including a streak of five straight during the Big West Conference slate...had a season best 18 points at Portland...third for the team in three-point field goals with 22.
1997-98: Payton averaged 7.9 points in his true-freshman season, third on the team...shot a team-high .368 (25-68) from three-point range...started the last 21 games of the season at point guard, the most starts by a freshman at UCSB since 1994...hit 5 of 5 three-point field goals (UCSB record) vs. Cal Poly on his way to a season-high 23 points vs. Cal Poly.
DE LA SALLE: Payton averaged 22.6 points, 4.2 assists, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game during his senior year...shot 50 percent from the field, including 42 percent from three-point range...named all-state by Cal-Hi Sports Magazine...selected All-Northern California, All-Bay Area, All-Bay Valley Athletic League, all-metro, and all-city his senior season...also earned honorable mention All-American by Street & Smith’s, Bob Gibbons Sports, and McDonalds...scored a prep career-high 38 points vs. Antioch HS...averaged 21.3 points as a junior and led De La Salle to the Northern California Division I title...earned several postseason honors.
PERSONAL: Born August 30, 1979 in Berkeley, California...son of Alfred Payton and Maxine Harris...has two brothers and two sisters...younger brother of Gary Payton, former OSU All-American and Sports Illustrated Player of the Year...Gary is an NBA All-Star and U.S. Olympian who has spent his entire professional career with the Seattle Sonics...playing pool and video games are his hobbies...majoring in speech communication.

February 17, 2000 vs. Cal State-Fullerton -- Brandon scored a career-high 28 points as UC Santa Barbara won its fifth consecutive game, 82-67...he came off the bench to hit 8 of 12 field goal attempts, including 5 of 7 from three-point range...Payton also nailed 7 of 10 free throw attempts.
February 3, 2000 vs. Cal Poly -- Payton scored a then career-high 27 points to lead the Gauchos to a 87-79 victory on the road...he hit 8 of 13 from the field, including 3 of 4 from the three-point arc...he also connected on all eight of his free throw attempts.
