Ken Carrillo is in his second year as the director of operations for Jay John and the men’s basketball program. Carrillo spent the previous four years at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind. He was the head coach of the Division II program in 2002 after serving as an assistant the three previous years.
Carrillo began his coaching career at Jamestown Community College in New York as an assistant to John for the 1987-88 season. He succeeded John as the head coach from 1989-95, and led the program to a seven-year record of 102-90. His 1992-93 club captured the Region 3 Division title and earned a trip to the National Junior College Tournament.
The 45-year-old Carrillo has also served as an assistant at Lewis-Clark State in Idaho for the 1997-98 campaign, and the boys varsity head coach at Mountain View High School in Tucson for two seasons. He is a 1986 graduate of the University of Arizona with a degree in physical education, and possesses a master’s degree in sports science from the United States Sports Academy in Alabama.
