Donny Harrel joined Oregon State's coaching staff in the summer of 2003 as a volunteer assistant coach. He works primarily with OSU's outfielders, hitters and pitchers.
Harrel, 33, spent eight seasons as head coach at Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore. In 1999, he as named Community College Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association; he was named NWAACC Southern Region Coach of the Year four times. His 1999 team won the NWAACC championship and set a school record for wins.
While at Lane, Harrel also coached the Eugene Challengers to an American Legion state championship and served as coach of the Bend Elks college summer team.
Prior to his time at Lane, Harrel was an assistant coach at Clackamas Community College, Bakersfield College and Taft College. He played baseball for Cal State-Bakersfield and then was a player in the Kansas City Royals organization for three seasons.
Harrel earned his bachelor's degree in Sociology from Cal State-Bakersfield in 1995 and a master's degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Phoenix in 2000.
Harrel enjoys fishing and golf. He and his wife, Cam, have a son, Easton (2) and a daughter, Brooklyn (6 mos.).
