Women's Rowers Qualify for U23 Rowing World Championships

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State women’s rowers Devery Karz and Patricia Obee have earned spots at the U23 Rowing World Championships, it was announced on Monday. The U23 Rowing World Championships will take place July 22-25, 2010, in Brest, Belarus.
Karz, a senior, will represent the United States at the U23 Rowing World Championships as a member of the U23 lightweight team in the quadruple sculls after her performance at the 2010 Under 23 World Championships Trials on Mercer Lake on Friday.
Karz teamed with GMS Rowing Center's Kim Hopewell, Elizabeth Robinson and Lauren Nelson to win the lightweight quadruple sculls trials event in a time of 6:47.382. Hopewell was a member of the women's quad that competed in the 2009 World Rowing Junior Championships, while Robinson, Nelson and Karz raced in the lightweight quad that took silver at the 2009 World Rowing Under 23 Championships. This marks the second consecutive season Karz will race at the U23 World Championships.
Meanwhile, Obee earned a spot on the U23 Canadian National Team and will compete in the lightweight women’s pair.
