Men's Golf Finishes In Third Place At Alister MacKenzie

Oct. 19, 2010
FAIRFAX, Calif. - The Oregon State men's golf team held its position during the final 18 holes on Tuesday at the 16-team Alister MacKenzie Invitational to finish in third place.
The Beavers shot the second best round on the final day, a 9-under 275, to finish the tournament at 27-under with rounds of 273-277-275--825 at the par-71, 6,708-yard Meadow Club. California won the tournament with a 48-under 804 to hold off San Diego State, which shot a 16-under 268 on Tuesday, and finished at 46-under 806.
"I think overall this was a very good tournament for us," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehorn said. "I'm very pleased with the way we played. For the 12 rounds that were counted, we didn't have one round over par. That doesn't happen very often. We beat some very good teams and those teams ahead of us just played unbelievably."
Junior Jonnie Motomochi and sophomore Nick Sherwood led the Beavers in the final round with a 4-under 67 and 3-under 68, respectively. Individually, Sherwood finished tied for 11th and Motomochi was tied for 16th. Junior Alex Moore, who was tied for third after the first 36 holes, finished tied for ninth overall.
Junior Morten Madsen and freshman David Fink both shot a 1-under 70 in the final round.
"Nick had a great first round, held on in the second round and came out and played a real solid round today that will hopefully give me a lot of confidence," Reehoorn said. "Jonnie has become someone we can depend on and I expect will be ready going into our last event of the fall."
The Beavers close out their fall schedule Nov. 1-3 at the Pacific Invitational at the Brookside Country Club in Stockton, Calif.
