Men's Golf Third After Two Rounds At Alister MacKenzie

Oct. 18, 2010
FAIRFAX, Calif. - The Oregon State men's golf team sits in third place after the first day of competition on Monday at the 16-team Alister MacKenzie Invitational.
The Beavers shot an 18-under 273-277--550 at the par-71, 6,708-yard Meadow Club and trail the host and defending champion California Golden Bears, who fired a 40-under 262-266--528, and San Diego State, which posted a 30-under 267-271-538.
"Overall, we played pretty well," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "Our focus has been to get off to a good start and we were able to do that today. To be at the top of the leaderboard is great and it's nice to have all five guys in the mix."
Junior Alex Moore led the Beavers with an 11-under 66-65--131 to put himself in third overall and just two strokes from the top. Sophomore Nick Sherwood shot a 4-under 67-71--138, junior Morten Madsen was at 2-under 69-71--140 and junior Jonnie Motomochi finished at 1-under 71-70-141.
"Alex realized in the first two tournaments that he was feeling his way out there and seeing what everybody was going to shoot," Reehoorn said. "His focus today was to be aggressive and make birdies. That mental mindset for himself really helped the team."
Tee times for the final round on Tuesday will begin at 8 a.m. Live scoring will be available at golfstatresults.com and a link will also be on the California Golden Bears website.
"It looked like Cal was playing a different golf course than everybody else today," Reehoorn said. "But the course is very scorable and the conditions were perfect. I think 20-under is doable so we need to have the mindset to shoot as low as we can and see what happens."
