Corvallis -
The Oregon State University women’s volleyball team once again paced the school’s intercollegiate teams for term grade point average. Head coach Taras Liskevych’s club posted a 3.50 spring term GPA, edging women’s cross country/track at 3.46.
Volleyball, which was honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association last year for academic achievement, had eight student-athletes earn Pac-10 Conference All-Academic recognition from the 2008 season.
“I'm very proud of our student-athletes as they led all programs academically for the second straight spring term,” Liskevych said. “We set a team and individual goal of a 3.0, and I am pleased to say that we have hit our team goal each term.”
Cross country/track remains the cumulative GPA leader for teams at 3:42 with volleyball at 3.36. Nine other teams own 3.00-plus cumulative GPAs, including women’s rowing (3.25), women’s soccer (3.24), men’s soccer (3.23), gymnastics (3.17), men’s golf (3.17), softball (3.11), women’s basketball (3.04), women’s golf (3.01) and swimming (3.00).
Twenty-one student-athletes posted a 4.00 spring term GPA, with five having a 4.00 cumulative honor. Sixty student-athletes made the Honor Roll.
OSU had 96 selections on the Pac-10’s All-Academic teams for the 2008-09 academic year.
