Masterson Suffers Heat Exhaustion; Scratched From Final

May 17, 2009
EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Casey Masterson was scratched from Sunday’s Pacific-10 Championship finals in the 1,500-meters due to heat exhaustion.
Masterson qualified for the final yesterday with a time of 4:25.81, a school record, but was stricken by the sunny and hot conditions at Hayward Field following the race.
Masterson was advised by physicians to take the day off and to not risk further injury that would prevent her from running at the NCAA West Regional in two weeks. Masterson is scheduled to run in the 1,500-meters at the regional, May 29-30, in Eugene, Ore.
