EUGENE, Ore. – Strong 5,000-meters performances by the Oregon State women’s track team was headlined by sophomore Hayley Oveson finishing the race with the programs fifth fastest time in history at the Oregon Relays on Friday.
Oveson (La Grande, Ore.) ran the 5,000-meters in 17:07.14 in the first section at Hayward Field finishing 15th in a 30-runner field.
“Hayley ran really well in her first 5,000-meters of the season,” head coach Kelly Sullivan said. “She ran a very good time in a strong field. She will continue to improve inside that event as the season goes on.”
Sophomore Marsha Lampi (Portland, Ore.) also had an outstanding performance in the 5,000-meters running a 13-second personal best in a third place finish in section two. Lampi ran the race in 17:26.95, just five seconds from breaking into Oregon State’s all-time best list.
“Marsha had a really big PR today,” Sullivan said. “It was really good to see her perform so well."
Senior Holly Thomson (Eugene, Ore.) highlighted the 1,500-meter runners for the Beavers finishing eighth with a time of 4:38.67.
Assistant coach Chas Davis was also in competition running in the 5,000-meters for the Boulder Running club. Davis finished 18th of 25 with a time of 15:24.17.
“We had some women run some nice races, but there are still some things we need to work on,” Sullivan said. We’re going to take the next couple weeks to get in better shape, play a little catch-up. And go from there.”
