Nate Pomeday Named Assistant Men's Basketball Coach
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Nathan Pomeday, who has spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Lake Forest (Ill.) Academy, has been named Oregon State men’s basketball assistant coach, head coach Craig Robinson announced on Thursday. Pomeday joins Douglas Stewart as the newest members to the Oregon State men’s basketball staff since the hiring of Robinson.
“We are very excited to have Nate (Pomeday) aboard,” head coach Craig Robinson said. “He has extensive international recruiting contacts and has had success wherever he has coached. He will be an excellent addition to the staff and program.”
In three seasons at Lake Forest Academy, Pomeday helped lead the squad to three straight Independent School League titles as the squad finished 24-10 this past season. Under his guidance, where he specialized in skill development for junior varsity and varsity basketball players, several members of the program went on to receive Division I men’s basketball scholarships.
Prior to arriving at Lake Forest, Pomeday served as the head coach at Calumet College (Ind.) of St. Joseph, where he was the head coach four seasons. When he was named as the head coach for the start-up NAIA Division II program in August 2000, Pomeday was the youngest head men’s basketball coach in the nation.
While at Calumet College of St. Joseph, Pomeday produced an increase in wins each year and brought the program to the upper echelon of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. During his four seasons, several players were named CCAC all-conference, one earned NAIA Div. II All-America honors while two former student-athletes are currently playing professionally in the International Basketball League.
His additional coaching experience includes working with Full Package Athletics, Inc., where Pomeday served as the Director of Basketball Operations for two years and has served as the head coach for the Under-17 AAU team since June 2006.
Pomeday attended Northwestern University where he was a stand-out guard for the Wildcats for four seasons. In addition to his four years on the court for the Wildcats, Pomeday has spent the past four seasons serving as the color commentator for the men’s basketball program on WGN Radio.
Pomeday graduated from Northwestern in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and is expected to receive a master’s degree in sports administration from the school later this month.
The native of Cedar Grove, Wisc., will reside in the Corvallis area with his wife, Heidi, and their two dogs, Mischka and Harley.
