Women's Basketball Holds 2007-08 Banquet

CORVALLIS, Ore. The Oregon State women’s basketball team held its annual banquet Saturday night at the Club (level) at Reser. The event was held in conjunction with a silent auction, which raised more than $5,000, and was sponsored by The Rebounders, the Oregon State women’s basketball booster organization.
There were more than 200 in attendance at the event, which served as an opportunity to honor the team’s award winners, its lone senior, Ashley Allen, and to watch a highlight video that relived the 2007-08 season.
The 2007-08 award winners included: Alex Mitchell (Most Improved Player), Stacey Nichols (Academic Excellence Award), Mercedes Fox-Griffin (Free-Throw Award and Defensive Player of the Year) and Tiffany Ducker (Most Outstanding Rebounder).
Presenters at the banquet included head coach LaVonda Wagner, assistant coaches Krista Reinking and Scott Creighton, Mandy Close, academic advisor Lindy Brown and former player Michelle Smith. Fox-Griffin recited her poem “Meditation” while Brittany Eskridge performed the invocation. Oregon State play-by-play announcer Todd Mansfield served as the host for the night.
Silent auction items available at the banquet included a dinner with coach Wagner, a framed poem written by Fox-Griffin and a chance to be an honorary coach and sit on the bench during a non-conference game next season.
