Saori Haruguchi Finishes Fourth in 200 Butterfly

TOKYO Saori Haruguchi finished the Japanese Olympic trials with a fourth place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.53, cutting almost two seconds off her previous time and setting a new personal record on Saturday.
Haruguchi also finished in fourth during the semi-finals with a time of 2:11.31. During the preliminaries, Haruguchi finished the race in fourth place with a time of 2:11.37.
During the first day of competition, Haruguchi qualified for the Japanese Olympic team in the 400 individual medley when she won the event in a time of 4:38.94.
Haruguchi is the second swimmer from Oregon State University to qualify for the Olympics. Birte Steven represented Germany in the 200 breaststroke during the 2004 Olympics.
Birte Steven will begin her attempt to make the Germany Olympic team April 19 through April 21.
