Kevin Rhoderick Named To NCBWA Freshman All-America First Team

CORVALLIS, Ore. Oregon State closer Kevin Rhoderick has been named to the inaugural Pro-Line National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-America First Team, it was announced Monday.
Rhoderick, from Scottsdale, Ariz., finished his first campaign with the Beavers with an 0-1 record and 2.39 ERA, posting 12 saves in 14 opportunities. He scattered just 11 hits in 26 1/3 innings of work as opponents hit just .131 against him in 2008.
The right-hander did not allow a hit until his seventh appearance of the season and did not allow a run until April 12 against Stanford his 11th appearance of the year. Only twice did he allow multiple hits in the same game.
Rhoderick is one of 17 players on the first team, of which seven pitchers threw relievers are included.
The NCBWA will announce its National Freshman Player of the Year and National Freshman Pitcher of the Year on Tuesday.
It is the second Freshman All-America award of the season for Rhoderick, who was also honored by Collegiate Baseball on June 4. He was also named an All-Pac-10 Honorable mention selection.
He and sophomore catcher Ryan Ortiz are scheduled to try out for the USA Baseball National Team from June 11-23. A team of 22 will be selected on June 24.
