Women's Golf Travels to Pac-10 Championship

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women’s golf team will travel to Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. to participate in the 22nd Pac-10 Conference Women’s Golf Championship, opening the championship on Monday, April 21, at 8:00 a.m.
Traveling to California to represent the Beavers are seniors Jessi Gebhardt and Julianna Uhrik, junior Martha Burkard, sophomore Lauren Archer and freshman Cara Freeman.
Following an impressive third place finish with a team score of 599 at the Peg Barnard California Collegiate, in order to advance on to the NCAA Regional, the Beavers are looking to capture top honors at the 54-hole championship hosted by USC at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
“We have never played Palos Verdes although our assistant coach Kailin played there while she was in college,” OSU’s head coach Rise Lakowske said. “Her experience should help us with our practice round and development of a course management strategy for each player.”
The par-72, 6,000 yard field will feature the 10 highly competitive teams from the Pac-10, which features five of the top 20 teams in the country in No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 USC, No. 4 Arizona State, No. 14 Arizona and No. 19 California.
“The Pac-10 is the strongest conference in the country in women’s golf so our goal this week is to focus on playing the golf course, which is our real competition,” Lakowske said. “If we successfully play the course the results will take care of themselves.”
