Kevin Rhoderick Placed On Baseball America Freshman All-America Second Team

CORVALLIS, Ore. Oregon State freshman closer Kevin Rhoderick has been named to Baseball America’s Freshman All-America Second Team, the publication announced Monday.
Rhoderick, from Scottsdale, Ariz., finished the 2008 campaign with an 0-1 record, 2.39 earned run average and 12 saves. He struck out 32 in 26 1/3 innings and allowed just 11 hits while opponents batted .131 against him.
The right-hander did not allow a hit until his seventh appearance of the season; he allowed multiple hits in a game just twice. Opponents did not score a run off Rhoderick in his first 10 games. Overall, he held opponents scoreless in 16 of his 20 appearances.
Of the 32 players named to the first or second team, Rhoderick is the only player selected from the Pacific-10 Conference. Miami’s (Fla.) Chris Hernandez was named Baseball America’s Freshman of the Year.
It is the fourth Freshman All-America honor of the year for Rhoderick, who has also been named to the Freshman All-America teams by Collegiate Baseball, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Ping! Baseball.
