Burkard Advances to Semifinals at Oregon Amateur

BEND, Ore. Oregon State senior Martha Burkard put on a terrific performance at the 99th Oregon Amateur as she advanced to the semifinals before falling to Karly Mills of McMinnville, 1 up, in action at the Bend Golf and Country Club on Friday.
Burkard advanced to the semi-finals by rolling through the first three rounds. In the quarterfinals, Burkard defeated Jessica Black of Bend, 3 and 2, to advance to the final four.
In earlier rounds, Burkard defeated Donna Olexio-Smoot if Beaverton, 1-up, in the second round after claiming a victroy over Danielle Ranallo of West Linn in round one.
In the match against Ranallo, Burkard built a three-hole lead before Ranallo rallied to get the match back to all square after the 16th hole. Burkard responded; however, with a birdie on 17 and a par on 18 to take the match.
The senior qualified for match play and earned the overall No. 7 seed after solid play during the qualifying rounds. Burkard opened play with a 79 in round one followed by a solid score of 76 in round two to advance to the round of 32.
