On July 1, 2006 OSU President Dr. Edward Ray awarded Oregon State University Director of Athletics received a contract extension after he had served as the department’s athletic director since Aug. 28, 2002.

“ has proven himself to be a leader for the athletics department, and a valuable member of the university leadership team,” Ray said. “His vision has enabled alumni, fans and current students and staff to feel proud to be associated with this university. Bob's abilities to manage resources and recruit world class coaches are well known. There is no question that even better days are ahead for Oregon State University athletics.”

De Carolis, 53, began his OSU career April 20, 1998 as associate athletic director for internal operations; he was promoted to senior associate athletic director July 1, 1999.

Since De Carolis has been in Corvallis OSU has engaged in over $130 million in capital facility projects which has directly affected the 500 Beaver student-athletes along with coaches, staff and fans of Beaver Nation. During his tenure as the director, De Carolis led the largest fundraising campaign in the history of the athletic department in raising $30 million toward the $80 million construction project “Raising Reser – Expanding Beaver Nation” phase 1 and the recently completed $33 million phase 2 project which increased Reser Stadium’s capacity over 45,000. Reser Stadium know enjoys state of the art amenities including a new LED ribbon board on the Valley Football Center and a 150' wide videoboard with 80' of video display area in the north endzone which is the largest in the Pac-10 Conference.

In addition, De Carolis has been at the forefront in recent coaching hires that include Mike Riley (football), LaVonda Wagner (women’s basketball), Terry Liskevych (volleyball), Jim Zalesky (wrestling) and Kelly Sullivan (women’s track/cross country). He also recently signed head coaches Pat Casey (baseball), Kirk Walker (softball), Tanya Chaplin (gymnastics) and Dana Taylor (men’s soccer) to contract extensions.

Under his leadership, nearly all of the department’s 17 intercollegiate athletic programs have participated in postseason competition in the last four years including several Pac-10 championships, national NCAA appearances and highlighted by back-to-back baseball national championships in 2006 and 2007. Off the fields of play, the overall grade point average for student-athletes has risen, the department has eliminated a $12.5 accumulated deficit five years ahead of schedule. He has also overseen the Beaver Athletic Student Fund’s (BASF) annual giving increase from $5 million to just over $11 million.

In addition, De Carolis has been instrumental in the ongoing upgrading of legendary Gill Coliseum, $11 million Sports Performance Center (project title-Gill Annex) which is set to open in Spring of 2008, Campaign for Goss Stadium to expand the home of the reigning national champions. He has also directed the improvements to the Tommy Prothro Football Complex. He is also currently leading another $40 million in planned capital upgrades and new projects to enhance Beaver student-athlete welfare and success.

Along with overseeing an athletic department enjoying the most successful years in Oregon State history, De Carolis has also engineered important victories off the field as well. Oregon State Athletics is nationally recognized for the innovative 'everyday champions' program which encourages and showcases the accomplishments of the 500 Beaver student-athletes who compete and excel not only on the field of play but in the classroom, in the community and in life. During Bob’s tenure hours of community involvement by OSU student-athletes and coaches has increased by 300%.

Prior to arriving in Corvallis, he spent 19 years at the University of Michigan, serving in a variety of capacities including senior associate athletic director for internal operations.

De Carolis is a 1976 graduate of Bloomsburg State College in Pennsylvania with a B.S. in business education. He received his Master’s of Science in sports management in 1979 from the University of Massachusetts.

Bob is married to the former Sandra Taylor and has three daughters Lyndsay, Lauren and Hayley.
