Sam Gaviglio Signs Letter Of Intent With Beavers

CORVALLIS, Ore. Ashland High School right-handed pitcher Sam Gaviglio has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Oregon State baseball team, head coach Pat Casey announced Friday.
Gaviglio starred for Ashland in 2008, helping lead the Grizzlies to the Oregon 5A state championship. Against Springfield's Thurston High School, Gaviglio threw seven full innings, striking out seven in the club’s 4-3 victory. Gaviglio had entered the game with a 0.53 ERA, 101 strikeouts and just 13 walks this season. He had a 37-inning scoreless streak snapped in the state of Oregon playoffs.
The win against Thurston put Gaviglio’s record at 13-0 in 2008.
“Sam is a good player from in-state,” Casey said. “He has a real good arm and we think he’s going to develop well in our program.”
For his efforts this season, Gaviglio was named All-Southern Sky Conference Pitcher of the Year and was named to the league’s first team. He was recently named the 5A Pitcher of the Year in the state of Oregon as announced by The Oregonian.
Gaviglio was recently selected in the 40th round (1,193rd overall) by Tampa Bay in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
