Kevin Rhoderick Earns Third Freshman All-America Honor

CORVALLIS, Ore. Oregon State closer Kevin Rhoderick earned his third Freshman All-America honor Friday when Ping! Baseball announced its 2008 All-America and Freshman All-America teams. Rhoderick was placed on the first team.
Rhoderick, in his first season with the Beavers after coming from Scottsdale, Ariz., led OSU with 12 saves in 14 opportunities. He finished his first campaign with a 0-1 record and 2.39 ERA. The 12 saves are tied for third-best in an Oregon State single season and Rhoderick is already tied for second on the OSU career list.
The right-hander allowed opponents to hit just .131 against him in 2008; he did not allow a hit until his seventh appearance of the season. Rhoderick allowed multiple hits in a game just twice.
Rhoderick has also been named to the Freshman All-America teams by Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). He, along with Ryan Ortiz, is currently trying out for the 2008 USA Baseball National Team. Rhoderick threw a scoreless inning, striking out two, in Team USA’s victory over Keene Thursday night.
Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a home run and a single in the 11-0 shutout.
Rhoderick and Ortiz are doing blogs from their experiences with USA Baseball. Rhoderick's can be found by clicking while Ortiz's is available .
