Vita Scaglione Chosen to Coach at US Development Camp

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State assistant rowing coach Vita Scalione has been honored by the USRowing program to coach at the USRowing Development camp this summer at New London, Conn., June 22-July 20.
Scaglione is charged with coaching the Junior A Development Team. The team consists of rowers, age 16 to 18, and considered future prospects for the US Junior National Team. The camp is held in conjunction with the Junior National Selection Camp that selects the top under-23 rowers in the country to compete in the 2008 U23 World Championships.
“I am excited by the prospect of working with this group of talented athletes and coaches,” Scaglione said. “It is an honor to be offered this opportunity. It is going to be a lot of fun and it will certainly be a tremendous learning experience.”
Scaglione, who recently completed her second season at Oregon State, arrived in Corvallis with head coach Emily Ford after coaching with her at Michigan. Previously Scaglione led the novice program at Washington State from 2001-04. She was awarded the 2007 West Region’s Assistant Coach of the Year for her work with the Beavers in the 2006-07 season.
“It’s a great opportunity to get exposure for our program at OSU,” Ford said. “Vita is a great coach and a really likeable person, so I think she will have a great time and the athletes will really enjoy her.”
