Softball Loses Slugging Competition to No. 8 Stanford

Corvallis, Ore. Senior (Camarillo, Calif.) gave the Beavers an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, sending the ball over left field on the first pitch seen, but Oregon State fell 4-2 to No. 8 Stanford on Saturday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex.
Five of the six runs in the game were home runs with Oregon State (26-28, 4-13 Pac-10) getting a second homer from junior (Camarillo, Calif.). Freshman (Beaverton, Ore.) and sophomore (Chula Vista, Calif.) recorded the other two hits for the team.
Stanford’s Michelle Smith tied things up in the top of the second on a home run of her own over left field before Maddy Coon hit a two-run shot in the top of the fourth to give the Cardinal a two-run edge. Coon opened the gap up to 4-1 in the top of the sixth on her solo home run over left center.
Young nailed her one-out solo shot of her own in the bottom of the seventh to put the Beavers within two runs.
Sophomore (Eugene, Ore.) pitched the complete game, throwing three strikeouts, with her record now sitting at 17-22. Stanford’s Missy Penna recorded the win, boosting her record to 32-9 with Stanford’s record now at 44-10, 9-8 Pac-10.
Oregon State wraps up the weekend against No. 8 Stanford on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
