Beavers Outlasted by No. 8 Stanford in Sunday's Extra Innings Game

Corvallis, Ore. Freshman (Beaverton, Ore.) went a perfect 3-for-3 with three singles, reaching on all four plate appearances, but Oregon State fell 2-1 in eight innings to No. 8 Stanford on Sunday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex.
Freshman (Vista, Calif.) nailed a game-tying shot over center field, and sophomore (Boring, Ore.) went 2-for-4 for the other Oregon State (26-29, 4-14 Pac-10) hits. The Beavers left nine runners on base in the game.
Stanford scored first in the top of the fourth with Rosey Neill leading off with a single. Michelle Schroeder scored the run on Michelle Smith’s single after pinch running for Neill, nearly called out on Maddy Coon’s fielder’s choice on a close force out call at second.
The Beavers threatened in the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases with two outs after Guzy led off with a single and advanced to second on sophomore ’s (Chula Vista, Calif.) sacrifice bunt. Stanford pitcher Missy Penna hit back-to-back Oregon State batters, but a line out to center field ended the inning with all three stranded.
Roderfeld hit her one-out home run in the bottom of the sixth to tie things up with neither team able to score in the seventh, sending the game into extra innings.
Coon scored the two-out game-winning run in the top of the eighth on Smith’s RBI double to left center after reaching on a walk and stealing second.
Sophomore (Eugene, Ore.) pitched the complete game, throwing three strikeouts and giving up only one walk with her record now at 17-23. Penna earned the win, making her record now 33-9, improving the Cardinal’s record to 45-10, 10-8 Pac-10.
Oregon State heads north to take on non-conference opponent Portland State on Tuesday, May 6 for a single game. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
